Customer Reviews of John Lennon and Yoko Ono: The Bed-In
John and Yoko stay in bed just to give peace a chance On May 26, 1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved into Room 1742 of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada. For the next seven days they talked about peace to anyone who wanted to listen. After getting married earlier that year, the newlyweds had staged their first "bed-in for peace" at the Amsterdam Hilton for their honeymoon, which served as the subject for the Beatles song "The Ballad of John & Yoko." They originally planned to stage their second bed-in in New York City, but was not allowed into the U.S. because of a pot bust. This videotape features conversations about peace with Timothy Leary, Al Capp, Petula Clark, and Tommy Smothers, among many others. Of course there is also the classic live bedroom recording of "Give Peace a Chance," along with "Instant Karma," "Remember Love," and a nice acoustic version of "Because" by John along with the proverbial much, much more. "John Lennon: The Bed-In" is more of a straightforward record of the event that a documentary per se, and is certainly worth a look for those who admired the man, his music, and his message.
Interesting Footnote: Today you can relive John and Yoko's Bed-In for Peace at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel for [$$$] per room, per night in the John Lennon suite. You can a souvenir photo of the 1969 event, breakfast for two, and bottle of sparkling wine, and a welcome gift. But no Tommy Smothers.
Hair=peace, peace=love, love=hair
Excellent film footage of the greatest breakthrough in world peace since the Treaty of Versailles. North Vietnamese General Vo Nyugen Giap claimed in his recent memoirs that John and Yoko's weeks long "bed-in" for peace in an Amsterdam hotel in 1969 was one of the major turning points in the Vietnam War. While this is common knowledge, however, few people are aware that when Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach decided to have a lie-in one Sunday morning in the late seventies, it averted a small border war between the West African countries of Mali and Burkina Faso. Ringo's album 'Back off Boogaloo' topped the charts in a grateful Timbuctu for months afterwards!
