Customer Reviews of Joe Weiders Mens Fitness
How The Mighty Have Fallen This magazine used to be, bar none, the best fitness magazine on the market. It used to be a quality magazine that stood head and shoulders over the vapidity that is Men's Health magazine. The concentration was on fitness, on workouts, on learning new ways to eat, to improve your overall health level. I kept each issue in a binder, because literally each article was a keeper.
But now - October 2003, the magazine underwent the customary "makeover" and I guess being the best, the most professional, the standard wasn't bringing in enough subscribers, because they've sunk low enough to be worse than "Men's Health". The tone of each article is meaner, more sarcastic. It's all about being funny (in a juvenile way). I had a three year subscription with two years left and cancelled it immediately. I guess they've decided to go for the 18-25 Maxim Frat Boy crowd.
Too bad.
If you're 18-25, immature, think that life has nothing more to offer than getting laid and drunk on the weekend, then hey! "Men's Fitness" is for you. But if you're out of college (or high school), mature and looking for quality articles on workouts, on diet and health and fitness, I'm afraid that this magazine isn't for you.
I totally disagree with the reviews-Disappointed!
I've hit the gym for ten years, and read tons of health magazines. I decided to get a subscribtion to one, and read the reviews of the various magazines. Men's Fitness had great reviews, so I got a subscription. This magazine is mainly ads for pushing Weider's products. Each magazine is about 50% ads for supplements and sex boosters. The articles are ok, but nothing special. I think that other magazines such as Muscle and Fitness are better designed and have more information. I am very disappointed with this subscription, and I won't be renewing.
Pump it up
I have subscribed to this magazine off and on for many years, really since I was a teenager. It has been around a long time and for good reason. It has good tips and techniques for weight training without talking to just the 8-hours-a-day-in-the-gym group of guys.
They have features on specific body parts each month, like legs, back, chest, arms, gut. They do series every so often so you can blend in new exercises with your routines you've already got going, and by the time the series ends and a new one begins you have transformed your workout.
It is important to vary things so you don't plateau and get a muscle-memory problem, or wear out certain joints and ligaments from too much repetition without any variation.
This magazine shows regular guys, in shape but not massive unobtainable bodies. It also has diet tips, tips for the love life and social life, talks about sports gear and some travel that is related to sports and fitness, and every now and then something about athletic wear.
Highly recommended!
