I found out about this release wayyy too late, but as soon as I did, I bought it--one of the best decisions of my life. I was only about 1 when this show came out in the 80s. It didn't actually last long enough for me to even have any recollection of it, but somehow the cartoon stuck with me. I had the episodes on vhs, the keyboard that played tapes and turned into a stage for the Jem and the Holograms dolls. I remember having the Cynergi doll and the leg broke off, but I kept it just the same. (By the way, I always thought her name was spelled Synergy but in the DVD box set it refers to her as Cynergi.)

Anyway, enough about my childhood memories. This DVD set comes with 4 DVDs with 26 episodes in total. There's the "Play Songs" option which just plays the songs and its music videos from that particular DVD. There is commentary by the writer Christy Marx (whom I always wanted to write a letter to as an avid fan). There is also an interview with the voice behind Jem. Now, one misconception with this product is that there are two seasons in it. It says it's the complete first and second seasons which isn't actually the case. It's only the first season which is split, calling the first five episodes the first season and the rest the second. I guess the first five establishing episodes can be seen as an introductory season to the rest of the episodes. Whatever, that's not a big deal. What I didn't like was that my DVD box was slightly crushed on one corner, but that's not the company's fault. I'm cheap and choose to have kids kick it to my doorstep than pay the extra 10 cents or whatever it is. But, one thing that is weird about the box (actually two things) is: the shape and the drawings in it. The drawings look like they were drawn by fans from the 80s. And, the box has so many folds in it that it'd be easy to rip apart eventually. I know I'm going to be watching the DVDs for months to come, so it'll definitely wear out. These are just minor problems though. The DVDs themselves are GREAT! No, wait... they're TRULY OUTRAGEOUS!! (I can't wait for the next seasons' DVDs to come out with Raya, Jetta, and the Stingers!)

Glamor, Glitter, Fashion and Fame!
I just received my set today and it's Truly Outrageous! The DVD art isn't the best, but the extras and the quality of the DVDS more than make up for that.

The episodes themselves have the bumpers that they used to go and come back from commercials which is so cool! The other Special Features include Commentary by series writer/ executive producer Christy Marx, Interview with Christy Marx, Interview with speaking voice of Jem/ Jerrica- Samantha Newark, Play song feature (it plays all of the music videos), Jem Public Service Announcements, and exerpts from the Jem series bible.

I can't begin to express the quality of the DVDs. The menus are really beautiful and the picture is better than I remember when Jem was originally on tv.

I highly recommend purchasing this DVD set so that the 3rd season can be released as well. Plus, I promise you, it's money well spent.

** In response to the problems some are having:

My "World Hunger Shindig" episode is perfectly fine. Everything is synched up and looks great. I did have a problem on the "Starbright: Colliding Stars" episode where the recap voice over started to repeat itself during the episode, but it only happened the first time I watched, and hasn't happened since.

Keep in mind this is show is almost 20 years old, so there are going to be some glitches, and I think Rhino did everything they could to fix any problems. The quality of the DVDs is amazing, and I'm a hardcore Jem fan and animation student, so I know what I'm talking about.
