Customer Reviews of Jarhead
A different look on WAR. Jarhead is a movie about the war in Saudi Arabia. It foccuses more on the soldiers that are in the war then the war itself. The dialogue is a bit "eehh", although the acting is flawless and the overall of the movie is spectacular. I do belive director Sam Mendes has another masterpiece in his hands.
Uneven but isn't real life much more?
The trailers for this film gave it a casual feel. For the first half of the film it certainly was that. Jake Gyllenhall is a star, he deserves an Oscar. The second half is serious. Peter Sarsgaard is as reliable as ever. The star of Skeleton Key, the back up in Garden State, he really is a unique actor. It is an uneven film in the sense that in real life Marines are not this sanitised, sanitary and perfect. Real life they are not as physicaslly well-built and charismatic. The typical male macho I could relate to it despite my SNAG Sensitive New Age Guys leanings. It commented deep down males just like sex. But Jake's character crying as well as Peter's shows a vulnreable universal human empathy and emotion. See the irony. Men love women to be sex objects, the moment they commit infedility it tears them apart like a an estranged child losing a parent. It would be easy to say this film is duality: light/dark but it is more of a mix. A potent composition, yes, that dosen't quite gel to make it achieve classic status. Certainly a worthy addition to the political films released this year and it did make profound anti-war statements. Good on Hollywood for questioning and challenging the CONservative status quo Republican dynasty of the oil greedy Bush family. The soundtrack fits the Generation Y market niche target audience to a pumping tee.
Who cares what everyone says I thought this movie was great!
So what if there is no war fighting in it. It's still watchable and entertaining. The ending was sad though but I can't wait to get this on DVD when it comes out. It's going to be awesome. If you hadn't seen it go check it out. It's different from other war movies but it was still good. I can't wait to watch it again.
