Customer Reviews of James Brown Ultimate Remixes
This $hit is sick....not your grandma's james brown I bought this cd at virgin records last year. I have a pretty eclectic cd collection, and decided to pick this one up, despite it's steep pricetag. <

>Everybody knows the story. Japanese djs cutting JB's master recordings, adding crazy tech scratches, drops in the melody, and cuts from live performances. I love it. If you like james brown, get this. If you like fatboy slim, get this. If you like disco or rave music, get this. I blast it from my car, and it freaks people out.
James Brown vs. Japanese DJs!
If you're looking for something a little different, something along the lines of that funky remix of Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation," then you will absolutely dig this album.
Basically, a collection of Japanese DJs and remixers took some of the Godfather of Soul's vintage tunes and put them through their paces, chopping them up, twisting them around, slowing them down, etc. I'm normally not crazy about remix albums but this one is excellent!
The albums starts off with the exciting, toe-tapper, "Sex Machine (Readymade Jazz Defector)" and never lets up. Even when a song is remixed a couple of times (see "Soul Power" and "Sex Machine") they are so different from one another that there is very little repetition. These DJs reinterpret James Brown's songs and make them their own. Fans of Fantastic Plastic Machine should check out his remix of "Sex Machine" that ends the album. Great stuff. Definitely worth hunting down and checking out.
