Customer Reviews of Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution
"Solution" is Anything But Produced in 1980 and based on the late Stephen Knight's book of the same name, "Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution" is anything but. The entire crux of the arguments put forward by Knight started with an interview of the grandson of a Whitechapel artist in 1973. This interview led to the astounding deduction that Prince Albert Victor, heir to the throne of England, had secretly married a common Catholic girl who bore him a child. Mrs. Duke of Clarence was then put away in an asylum and her confederates (five east end prostitutes) murdered by the Queen's personal physician, Sir William Gull, in a masonic conspiracy and coverup that makes Watergate look like a Brady Bunch episode. This very amateur production consists largely of narrator Ray McGregor sitting across the desk from Stephen Knight as Knight recounts his "research" leading up to his theory of Royal conspiracy. The staging is hoaky, the alliteration prolific and at least once a victim is identified with the wrong photograph. Much has come to light in the nearly 20 years since this film was produced and Stephen Knight ran off to join the Bagwan Rajneesh cult shortly before his death. This theory indeed makes for entertaining speculation and a great gossip engine, but for those seeking serious answers to the century-old question, "Who was Jack the Ripper", I'm affraid you will have to look elsewhere.
