Customer Reviews of It's About Time
RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW! By the early 90's all african american girl groups where the hottest ticket in town, groups like Xscape, For Real, Jade and Zhane, where bursting, but it's no doubt En Vogue where the leading ladies. In 1992 a group dare to take their crown away from them, and their name was : SWV(sisters with voices). Coko, Taj and Leele where well vocal trained, but the difference with En Vogue, was that, Coko, take lead in every song, no wonder, she was the most gifted, either way this affected or benefited the group, their debut album was certified 3 x Platinum and included some R&B classic joints, like the inevatable "I'm So Into You" a perfect party stomper of the early 90's, "Weak" a sleeky ballad, that sounded better acapella, the music make the #1 single sound dated, "Right Here/Human Nature" it's an amazing masterpiece, that took advantange from an old tune of Mr. Jackson, the last it's the most memorable track from the whole album. Although other tracks stand out like "Downtown", the original mix of "Right Here", many tracks fall into the oblivion of the mind, because they are simply forgeattable tracks. For a start the debut album gave SWV a name to keep on 'til 1998 when the girls decided to call it quit as a group.
I Lose all control...and something takes over me!
SWV was one of my favorite groups of the early 90's (those were the times weren't they?!?). The lead singer, Coko, has, probably, the best singing voice from our era that I have heard. I mean it's flawless. I am thoroughly amazed that her solo album flopped. She had talent. I wonder what happened to her...Enough about that though...this album is a masterpiece...a straight up classic. Everybody and their momma knows the lyrics to the monumental love song 'Weak'. And if you think 'Weak' was the only hit off the album then you are sadly mistaken. "I'm So Into You" is the classic jam about a girl's shyness towards a man and how she doesn't know how to explain her feelings. 'Right Here' is another classic joint but I'm sure most will be familiar with the remix, which uses a Michael Jackson sample oh so beautifully. "Downtown" was the sexy jam about that freaky deeky stuff gals like to dream about. "Give It To Me" screams New Jack, with its bouncy quick groove that you can easily bust out some Kid N Play moves to. "It's About Time", the title track, is the sexy slow jam with an unforgettable melody. Jammin.
The only gripe I have is that on 'Black Puddn' they try to rap which was a definite no no. You got those powerful talented voices don't waste them trying to rap. But hey that's only a minor glitch and doesn't detract from the album's greatness.
SWV's debut album is absolutely magnificent. I'll hold this album close to the heart and any fan should have this for sure. When have I ever steered you wrong? Go Get it!
