Customer Reviews of Issues
Korn has reworked their "Issues" When Korn first debuted in 1994 with their self titled album, they were the heaviest and darkest metal band around at that time, and they set a style to their music that was completely unique. The reason for this unique style to their sound is the vocal and lyrical styles of singer Jonathan Davis, who's dark lyrics and harcore vocals were one of a kind, and redefined the sound of metal bands in the 90's. This unique style was also followed up well with the release of their second studio album "Life is Peachy", which was definitelly an outstanding follow-up release that completely lived up to their previous recording. With their fourth studio album "Issues", Korn reinvents their sound drastically, The album lacks that very dark edge to Jonathan davis's vocals, which was definitely one of the key ingredients that made Korn's sound so unique. That's not to say though, that the album is not worthy of a listen, it provides some really good hard rocking music, with songs like "Falling away from me", and "Trash". The band's heavy roots are still exposed with great success, and it's clearly shown in songs like "Wake Up" and "Let's get this party started". The darkness of their lyrics are still intact, and even though it's not their greatest release, it's definitely the type of album no true Korn fan should be without. Korn still rocks harder then a lot of bands in mainstream rock, and this album is still worth a listen.
A dark, breathtaking composition
Wow. That's one word I have to describe this album. Issues is much different from as Follow the Leader and even the self-titled (I've haven't listened to Life is Peachy yet), and is not for the weak at heart. It's not as hard as the self titled and it's not as loud than Follow the Leader. And for all you losers out there who say that Korn was an Mtv made band, It wasn't Mtv who made them, it was Jonathan's unique vocals and powerful lyrics, Munky and Head'sstorng guitar riffs, Fieldy's rumbly low, sometimes percussive bass, and David's energetic drumming, and most importantly, their strong and hardcore fan base. Their audiences aren't like, oh let's say a truely MTV made band, Limp Bizkit (Sure, I like Limp, but I have little respect for them for selling out). In Limp's audience, you find huge portions of those MTV-watching teenage-teenyboppers-gone-bad who think they're cool and rebelling against their parents because they listen to Limp. Sure, the Korn fanbase has probably been infected with this too, but most of their fans are the real deal, and besides, Korn hasn't facilitated this growth. No, Korn has never sold out and never will. They just don't have the personalities. Sure, Jonathan' s cool and everything, but he isn't a suck up to all those little girls like Fred Durst. Not that I'm saying I hate Fred, I just lost alot of my respect for him, that's all. Hopefully that'll shut all of you up. Anyways, this album's a great one. Some of the songs you'll like when you first hear em, but most of them'll grow on you, so don't become immediately disappointed with the album, because it is definitely an awesome CD. And for all you whiners crying about how it's not like the self titled like you hoped, allow me to explain. If a band does the same thing twice, usually the music starts to suck and the fans lose interest. One of the reason Korn has been a success is because the had variety, for example, the self titled is much harder, Follow the Leader was heavy, but it wasn't as angry and a few tracks had hip hop. Issues only adds to Korn's delightfully varied, yet similar, style, by adding a very dark and more personal album.
Good, but not great.
"Issues," Korn's fourth album, is my fifth favorite Korn CD of the six, but that doesn't make it bad at all! "Issues" is, in my opinion, the darkest of all their CD's. It's not the heaviest, but the entire album has a dark, creepy feel to it. The only thing I don't like about "Issues" is all the 1 1/2-minute-or-less interludes throughout the CD, some of which would have made great songs if they were only longer. My reviews of each song are:
1) Dead (9/10): This is one of the two good interludes. The bagpipes are great.
2) Falling Away From Me (10/10): Great guitar riffs and vocals. One of the best songs on the entire CD (probably my third favorite).
3) Trash (9/10): An O.K. song, but it gets old after a while. The guitars are good. This song is pretty creepy and dark.
4) 4 U (6/10): Too short! If it was longer, it might have worked.
5) Beg For Me (10/10): My favorite song on the CD. Great drumming and vocals, and I really like the opening guitar riff. Nice lyrics.
6) Make Me Bad (10/10): My second favorite. This song is good all around. Great guitar riffs.
7) It's Gonna Go Away (5/10): Another interlude. You can't even understand what Jon is singing.
8) Wake Up (8/10): This song is pretty good, but it's not really one of my favorites. I like the chorus.
9) Am I Going Crazy (9/10): The shortest but the best interlude with good vocals. If this was the ONLY filler on the CD, "Issues" probably would have been my favorite Korn CD of all.
10) Hey Daddy (7/10): I used to really like this song, but it's gets really old, really fast.
11) Somebody Someone (10/10): Great opening guitar riff, great vocals, and a good, creepy chorus. This song is really dark. My fourth favorite song.
12) No Way (8/10): Good guitar riffs, but nothing really stands out on this song. Another dark song.
13) Let's Get This Party Started (9/10): This song has the best chorus of any on the CD. Nice vocals.
14) Wish You Could Be Me (5/10): Another short interlude. It sounds kind of cool.
15) Counting (9/10): My fifth favorite song. The bass and guitars are really good, and the vocals are excellent.
16) Dirty (7/10): I love the first minute or so, but then it just goes downhill from there, and there's four minutes of just static at the end. It's a pretty good closer though, but you kinda expect a bonus track after all that static.

"Issues" has some some great songs, and the only thing wrong with it is the fillers. It's still an excellent CD, and I would recommend buying it.
