Customer Reviews of Ishq
This could be a teen-age matinee favorite in India and the UK This movie is great fun. I'm usually not too fond of Bollywood comedies, but this one is quite unique. It actually makes fun of a seriously dark subject. The clashing of the caste. <

>The one thing that seems to keep poverty alive and well in India is their stupid caste system. The rich only socialize with the rich, and the poor must stay together AWAY from the rich. From the day they are born, the poor are made to understand that they are worthless, and the rich can knock them to the ground and kick them in the street and still be within their rights of the elite caste that they are. Even the police are made to understand that they must cater to the rich. <

>Now, this movie "Ishq", is a story of the clash of the caste. Although it starts off as a comedy, I believe that the writer and director wanted to shock the audience as it carries out the devious intentions of the rich fathers. The first half is this movie, is generally teenage oriented comedy. The second half is a dark serious evil series of events, with a great tear-shedding conclusion. <

>Here's the story: Two guys are best of friends for many years. The rich kid (Ajay Devgan), and the poor kid (Aamir Khan), They meet two girls who are best of friends. The rich girl (Juhi Chawla), and the poor girl (Kajol). <
> <
>These two guys are anxious to get to know these girls, all the miscommunications and failed get togethers make up for all the comedy that starts off the first half of this film. The rich guy falls in love with the poor girl. And the aggressively pleasant and confident poor guy, is in love with the rich girl. <

>By the chance meeting of two cars going down a one way street (coming at each other), One rich older man (who doesn't care that he's going the wrong way down a one way street), jumps out of his car to yell at the other driver to get out of his way. The other older rich guy gets out of his car to yell at the other guy. When they meet face to face, they realize that they were good friends many years ago, and so, they go off together to talk. As coincidence would have it (as in many Bollywood films), these two gentleman are the father's of the rich guy and the rich girl earlier mentioned. These two rich gentleman are already talking about having their two children marry. <

>Well, the problem with this is, Ajay (the rich guy) already loves Kajol, the poor girl. (This is "taboo" to the caste system). And also, the other rich man's daughter Juhi, is in love with the poor kid, Aamir. (You'll remember Aamir Khan was in "Lagaan".) <
> <
>The rich kid's defy their father's wishes and claim that they already love someone else. So now, the father's start to plot many schemes to break up the romances of these four kids. These schemes include: deceit, attempted murder, false stories of cheating behind each other's back, paid police brutality, false claim of a pregnancy, and even forced exportation out of the country. The two best of friends were turned against each other by schemes concocted by the father's. <

>When all the truths started to fall together in the end, Ajay Devgan does a great display of a man, screaming at his father, and wanting to commit suicide because of his shame to have such an evil father. In the end, you will want to cry when you see the rich guy, on his knees, begging his best friend for forgiveness. And to see the shame in the father's faces for how low and devious they were for wanting to have such control over their children. <

>I wish India would wake up and get rid of their stupid caste system so that the wealthy can share their wealth and give their country more proud citizens. Their religion seems to contribute to their poverty and their ignorance. <
