Customer Reviews of Iron Storm
Top Star ; Qualified 5 Star effort; a number of reasons, why this effort is so excellent;
It is interesting, that in the early '80s, on Black Uhuru's First, maybe I should say, Strictly Dub Release, the Dub Factor, the first track is "Ion Storm" among the robotic titles of some of the tracks on that album; this album is "Iron Storm" featuring, the excellent rap hit song, "Tip of the Iceberg" with Ice-T. The song occurs, on this album twice, the original and a remix. Apparently, Ice-T records his end, in Southern California, Black Uhru records their parts in Jamaica, It works well.
The second highlight is "Colourblind (Love) Affair", very deep feeling reggae; excellent dancing music and message. This song is done twice on the album as well; finishing the album, with a more acoustic version; I think, this is succeeds very well, rock groups, have long, repeated themes on their albums, say, Jethro Tull's "Thick as a brick" or any number of albums, by the Who.
Overall strength of the album is fairly good, "Dancehall Vibes" with a pleasant tropical beat shows Uhuru staying current with the time (which is 1991), "Statement" which has a catchy riddim, traditional theme with the refain "Everything they want to blaim it on the Rastaman."
The title song, is dedicated to the memory of former Black Uhuru member, Puma Jones who had then, just recently succumbed to breast cancer; there seems to be a reference to a Peter in this song, I would reason, meaning Peter Tosh, as well. The commentary, scope of this song, also, makes this a must-have for many Uhuru and Reggae fans. Also, on this same note, the excellent liner notes, that reissued Black Uhuru albums have, would be very nice, on this release, to gain a bit of insight to each song and what was the situation at this time as well, as the lyrics would be very nice to have for all the songs. I am sure, the dub followup on this album would be good.
Overall, this album comes on very strong, until 2 of the last 3 tracks, "Breakout" and "Trouble" which, I humbly opine, seem like singles B-side material; maybe some may like these songs, and more power to such sentiments. At any rate, these would only be two songs, out of the whole group.
Though Sly Dunbar is present on this album, Robbie Shakespeare isn't and Robbie does seem to add much to the Uhuru releases; still a good mix and good instrumental accompanyment of the songs. One thing, I have found, in the post Michael Rose era of the songs; are some excellent brass rhythm sections, meaning, trumpet, sax etc.
Auto Aim
I downloaded the Iron Storm Demo. Good game, but had a hard time setting up the red dot on the enemy to shoot. I would line up the sight, but would be overrun by the enemy no matter how fastI was. Is there a patch to correct this problem?
great
great CD. Many hit songs. Very 'western' though.. easy listening. Good for newbie-reggae-listeners
