Customer Reviews of Irish Tenor / Irish Melodies
Keeping an old tradition alive Having listened to a live performance I bought the cd collection and I was amazed to hear that both the live and recorded performances were almost identical, this I think is the mark of a true artist. If you like the old classics sung by tenors like McCormack and co you will certainly not be dissapointed by this performer. There is a wonderful youthful shine in this voice coupled with a beautiful legato line which reminds me of the late Frank Patterson. It is refreshing to hear another Irish Tenor who can actually hold his own against some of the best, I hope we get to hear more of him in the future.
Irish Memories
Having been lucky enough to have received a complimentary copy of this album at a recent Irish event I logged on to see if I could find some more and was thrilled to see it here on Amazon, I'll have to tell all my friends. This album is a wonderful combination of various Irish musical influences, ranging from Gregorian Chants pieces, to the effervescent Moore's Melodies such as Oft in the Stilly Night and Tis the Last Rose of Summer. It also encapsulates the perennials such as Mother Machree and the wonderful Machusla (in vogue again due to Clint Eastwoods film "Million Dollar Baby") which climaxes in a strong but soft high B flat tappering off into a sweet pianissimo. This CD also includes the great poem by W.B. Yeats which was put to a traditional tune for "Down by the Sally Gardens" the universal story of unrequited love. The wonderful thing about this CD is that most of the tunes are at least 100 years old, with rich accompaniments. This work helps preserve the wonderful traditional Irish-American legacy of Irish Tenor balads. My favorite piece has got to be Kathleen Mavourneen which my own father used to sing to my late mother whose name was also Kathleen and he nicknamed her Mavourneen. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys listening to Irish tenors, this singer follows in the footsteps of such greats as John McCormack, Joseph Locke, Frank Patterson and "The Irish Tenors". A great listen and great value.
