Customer Reviews of Irish Rebel Songs
Rebel Songs : The battering Ram Bravo, This is one of the best Rebel cd I have heard, anyone who likes Irish rebel Music knows there is a lot of cheap crap out there. This CD is not one of them. The Bands singer Declan Hunt is a legend in Ireland. I own all the Dubliners, Wolfe Tones , Irish Brigade and Compulation CD that are in print. But this is the CD I go back to time and time again. If your a fan of real Irish Rebublican Music. BUY THIS CD !!!!!
Great Songs, Inconsistent Voice Quality, Overall, buy it..
This is a very good album that unfortunately fails to achieve it's full potential. The album includes much of the "standard fare" that has been around for the last 20 - 30 years in "Republican" strongholds in Ireland and the US.
The songs are sung with the enthusiasm that they were intended to receive. Too many times one experiences a rousing "Rebel Ballad" that has been ruined by a group that doesn't realize the song was never intended to become "elevator music". The group on this album has supplied the emotion these songs deserve, which is appreciated.
The only real criticism of this album is the vocalists are out of their depth on some of the songs. The audio clarity is good, the problem is, the vocalist(s) occasionally don't achieve the same standard. This greatly affects the overall pleasure this album could have delivered.
Having said this, I do highly recommend this album's purchase. My criticism of some selections vocalist results should not detract from judging this as overall a very enjoyable album.
To use a baseball metaphor, instead of "hitting a home run" the vocal quality on some of the songs results overall in the album achieving only a "ground rule double". Not the ultimate result a ballplayer wants, but certainly very acceptable.
Bottom line, this album will not be out of place at your next party where "the Guiness flows, and the Brit's are rubbished". Especially if you are trying to recreate the atmosphere (vocal quality wise) which is found in many "pubs" which feature live "Rebel" music.
Classic Irish Rebellion Songs!
Originally released in 1973 on Rounder Records, Dublin's Battering Ram's Irish Rebel Songs rates up there with the Wolfe Tones' Rifles of the IRA and the Clancy Brothers' The Rising of the Moon: Irish Songs of Rebellion. Classics from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries such as General Munro, Come Out and Fight (You Black & Tans), Sean South, and Take it Down are great upbeat tracks that will get your Republican blood pumping as you sing along at the tops of your lungs. Highly recommended! Slainte!
