Customer Reviews of In the Wild: Giftset
Heart-warming and Fascinating I haven't been a huge fan of Julia Roberts' movies, but I caught this show on Animal Planet and was stuck. It was funny, touching, and educational. And Julia was surprisingly real and likeable. There are several funny moments, from a tiny baby orang peeing on her, to an adult female helping her do her laundry, to Julia spending a night alone in the jungle just like a rehabilitated orang must do before being released into the wild. She even has a frightening moment with a huge 400 lb male. Her interest in these creatures IS genuine, and she's using her fame to draw attention to the plight of these wonderfully intelligent, fascintating relatives of ours. She shares her discovery with us of how similar we and orangs actually are. That guy who gave this one star sounds like he has a closed mind and totally missed the point of this show.
I loved In The Wild - Orangutans with Julia Roberts
Set on the beautiful Island of Borneo, this documentary gives you an entertaining look at these facinating creatures with human-like emotions and intelligence. Their quiet, gentle nature melts your heart. Julia lends to the film too with her sweet, quirky personality. It was fun to see her without the 'hair and makeup'. She also meets an incredible woman on her adventure who has devoted her entire adult life to studying the orangutans, Birute Galdikas, and some of the people who work with her to protect these wonderful animals. Hats off to PBS and the actors and actresses for doing this series of films and making people aware of these rare and magnificent animals and their plight for survival.
A portrait of that magnificent creature... a movie star
This would be indistinguishable from any random episode of "Nova" or "Nature" without the stardust sprinkled over the proceedings by the elfin Academy Award [registered trademark!] winner who - as it happened - was the only reason I sought this out in the first place. Consequently, I think I may have learned more about "actress hollywoodus" than "felidae acinonyx". Ms. Hunter shamelessly twinkles, dramatizes, flirts, and broods - effortlessly capturing the center of attention, whatever the situation. In a word: she's a star - even in the incongruous setting of Africa, whose film associations provide her with one wisecrack that made me burst out laughing. Having spent the night sleeping on open ground in pursuit of the documentary crew's fleet quarry, she sighs over the dishevelled state of her hair and laments in voice-over, "How come this never happened to Meryl Streep?"
