Customer Reviews of In the Shadows
Good material. In the Shadows is a good album from Mercyful Fate. The musicianship is tight and skilled, and the songwriting and production are also good. There's a total of ten tracks--one of them is an instrumental ("Room of Golden Air"). The musical direction of this disc is hard rock with a gothic atmosphere. King Diamond does a cool job with the vocals--he's a very distinctive, dramatic, and versatile singer. The guitar work throughout is enjoyable and lively, too. There are some thick and succulent guitar riffs, and the guitar solos are also nice. I find all of the tunes to be listenable and energetic. The ones that I like the most are "Egypt," "Shadows," and "A Gruesome Time." "Egypt" is a really tight and sprightly tune. Some of the lyrics to the songs are also interesting. The liner notes contain the song lyrics and individual band member photos, too. In the Shadows is worth a listen.
WOW!!! COOL!!!
One day I was walking around town stoned listening to this on my headphines! This was a musical journey! (Like most music I listen to is when I'm high!) Every song rocks! This albums has awsome riffs, wicked melodies, and guitar solos!!! King Diamonds voice is the best I've heard on any album!
The album starts off with Egypt a really catchy song with a cool chorus and awsome guitar solos at beginning!
The next song is "The Bell Which" which made me paranoid that she was really going to attack! Great song structure!
The next is "The Old Oak"... cool song!
After that we have "Shadows" a simple catchy but good song with beautiful chorus!
Well I'm lazy so I don't feel like reviewing the rest of the album! The whole cd rules there isn't one bad song! Oh "Yeah Is That You, Melissa" is a beautiful ballad thats better than the other "Melissa".
The album cover explains perfectly what it sounds like! It has a very dark Autumn feel!
Best Mercyful Fate album, ever!
A solid album!
I stayed away from MF in the 80's because of a review in Hit Parader magazine that referred to them as "satanic drivel". Big mistake! This is the first album I ever owned by MF and it contains some great songs like Egypt, Shadows, A Gruesome Time, and 13 Invitations. There is really not a bad song on the album. I dig how most of the songs do not follow the typical rock/pop song structure. The guitar harmonies are also very unique at times. As for the King, well what can you say? He is in a class all by himself. A very talented and underrated band!
