Customer Reviews of I Want You
a simple touch of genius. How many of you claim to know a lot about good soul music and what's it all about? If we are talking about soul's great evolution, the one man that pops into my head is the incomparable Sam Cooke. Sam's innocent and romantic style paved the way for the likes of Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye to take the music to another level. "I want You" may not be as rich as "what's going on" in regards to production, but it has to be the most personal and versatile work Mr. Gaye has ever put out in his days. His approach filled with blunt honesty and lusty attitudes that would put a spell on anyone who is lucky to hear this truly amazing album. This package is filled with gems like "come live with me angel", "after the dance", "when we're making love" and "since i had you". You will not find a better example of the depths that soul music reaches into the skin. This one is for the keeps.
A Sensual, Romantic and Spiritual Journey...
Courtesy of both Msgr. Gaye and Msgr. Ware. Most of the material in "I Want You" was originally slated for Leon Ware's solo album for Motown. Berry Gordy felt the songs better fit Marvin Gaye. In the end Ware provided invaluable assistance in the production of this 1976 classic.
Gaye bears his soul, personal life and private thoughts as if he were speaking only to the love of his life- Janis; and not the casual listener.
ELVIS IS DEAD...MARVIN IS ALIVE!!!
It's already been said....nothing else to say. This is HANDS DOWN the best Marvin CD. I'm in love with a dead man. #2 on my list is actually the sound track to Trouble Man. I'm not too enthralled with his duets...the obsession only works when he's singing alone. Genius, pure genius.
