How can a 200 pound guy be so fast???
This fight is unbelievable, I only wish I could go back and bet on Ali (Clay) the 8-1 "underdog." Yes he was an underdog, but only to people who apparently know nothing of boxing. A Muhammad Ali, moving around throwing jabs etc., will always beat a slow hard hitting Sonny Liston. Look at Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson, it was miss match between the jabber and the slugger. This tape give's a little history of what happened before the fight, and then show's the fight uncut, the pre fight stuff, the fight, the stuff in-between rounds, and the interviews after the fight.

It was a very interesting night, before the fight Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Luis Rodriguez, and Sugar Ray Robinson are all present and the ring announcer points them out, which I found interesting because it was like the old generation of great legendary champions witnessing the crowning of the new legendary champion, and better champion in my opinion, Muhammad Ali. The fight start's, Clay comes out, gets down to business, moves around throws the jab. Unbelievable how a 6'3, 200 pound fighter could move around as he did. Then of course the Liston fans think that Clay is afraid of Liston and that he's running away, but they don't realize that Clay is simply outboxing Liston.

Clay throws 2 big combinations in the first 4 rounds, cut's Liston's eye, and give's him a bloody nose. Liston's trainers use a medicine to try to close Liston's cut, and apparently they put some of the medicine on Liston's gloves so that Liston could get it in Clay's eyes and blind him for a round or two, which is what happens. But Clay took the punches, Clay moved around, grabbed and shoved Liston, then his eyes cleared and he started beating on Liston again. Then Liston doesn't come out in the 7th round, and Cassius Clay is the heavyweight champion of the world. The post fight interviews in the ring are almost as entertaining as the fight itself, Clay talking about how he shook up the world and there was no match and how pretty and great he was.

If you like this fight, which you will, I suggest getting the other two fight's in this series, the Rumble in the Jungle and the Thrilla in Manilla.

This tape shows the entire fight between the two combatants. On this night Clay would be the victor and declare that he shook up the world. He jabbed all over body, and head, as the flat footed Liston was an easy target for the butterfly. Even with the impaired site, Ali then known as Clay regiened supreme!
