Customer Reviews of I'm Movin' On
Cece is AMAZING but this is not anywhere near her best Cece Peniston had a career that came and went too quickly. Her smash debut yielded a ton of dance singles as her rich voice was bathed in irresistible beats, but she also delivered on the ballads. Her second CD started to move away from her dance roots into what I think was a more contemporary/stale R & B sound that did not suit her as it was too generic. Maybe it was Cece's decision or maybe her record company's but at least the first 3 tracks were on fire.
So then came her third and last CD, which almost totally abandoned the energy and infectiousness of her beginnings. While Cece's voice is as expressive as ever and does a good cover of "Someone Else's Guy." Jocelyn Brown still sings the definitive version, but Cece's is quite good. I also liked "Don't Know What to Do," but most of the songs are dead on arrival as she moved full force into what probably seemed like a good marketing move at the time, but her songs and arrangements wound up sounding like everyone else's in the 1990s. I would give Cece's first release 4 stars, 3 stars for her second, but can't in good conscience give her more than 2 stars for I'm Moving On.
I hope that Cece makes a comeback on her own terms and hopefully will focus on the dance floor classics that made her so very special and brought her the greatest commercial success. Everytime I hear "Keep On Walkin'" I am reminded of how much I like this woman.
Five stars for Movin' On!
Full of zesty, modern R&B dance tracks, I'm Movin' On, Ce Ce's third album, further establishes her as a good-time crooner and achieves her diva status. This time around, she's after something different. Her crisp hard beats and cool funk loops really dominate. Most of the songs on I'm Movin' On shine particulary bright. "Sprung On You (Groove Me)" benefits from cool, understated brass; by the end of the song, the atmosphere is lit to acid jazz. Her cover of Jocelyn Brown's "Somebody Else's Guy" runs smoothly along with a boogie piano. She sings with a bold resolve, being straightforward and to the point. Being one of the rare artists to successfully make the transition from club-style dance music to mainstream R&B, I'm Movin On finds Peniston moving into the urban arena with a most pleasing outcome. On I'm Movin' On, she feels she's learned the lessons from her first and second albums. She's movin' on to the next level through experience and staying confident. There's plenty to look forward to on I'm Movin' On, as she showcases her interest in Dance and R&B. You won't be disappointed after listening to the track "House Party" or "Somebody Else's Guy." These songs have infectious and danceable melodies with innovative beats. You'll be delighted to know that Ce Ce delves deeper into her R&B-influenced musical background with tunes such as "Last To Know," a mid-tempo ballad about a cheating partner, written by the singer herself. She was very careful selecting tracks for her third album and made sure they stuck true to her style. On I'm Movin' On, she maintains her realness, and explores all the various dimensions of her voice and musical tastes. Ce Ce Peniston continues to prove that she's got what it takes to stick it out for the long haul as she ventures into the streets with sassyness, savvy, and hitting the mark everytime. If you don't already own this CD, then I recommend you make this your next buy!
five stars well deserved!
This is a great CD! I own it myself. This album showcases CeCe's maturity level as a vocalist. She possesses a distinctive and very powerful voice and is truly one of music's most over-looked divas. Although she's proven herself to have a sustaining career in a climate that's far too quick to label an artist, especially one of dance music to be a one hit wonder a little too quickly. CeCe's funky style compliments her charming, romantic repertoire wonderfully. I'm Movin' On provides an R&B based platform on which Ce Ce struts her funky stuff and lets loose. By listening to her music, I always find the peace, love, happiness and joy that I need. This a must have for any music lover or fan of Ce Ce's!
