Customer Reviews of Hoot Your Belly
Yell, Holler, and Hoot Your Belly! Fresh from the the folks at Fat Possum Records, Hoot Your Belly is the fifth release of the George Mitchell music archive. The Record is a compilation of two recording sessions in 1977 and 1982 respectively, featuring 13 traditional tunes thoughtfully re-arranged by Williams. Jimmy Lee is a farmer by trade, raising soybeans, peanuts and watermelon in Georgia. He bought his first electric guitar for $75 form a co-worker, "Boy, I played that," he says, "We had to run people away form the house!" Preferring the simple life to anything else, his decisions are reflected in honest lyrics that speak of better days and good times. The album is charged with his whining howl; nasal and primal it fills in the cracks and crevasses of "Hoot Your Belly" in the same fashion as Little Richard's trademark scream filled in between vocals and licks on his piano. This album is the framed portrait of a farmer who has sought nothing more than to work hard to keep a few pennies in his pockets and play the guitar to lift his spirits.
