Film is enrtertaining, but lacks safety procedures
I am 17 years old and have been studying explosives and chemistry for four years. I have found the video has a great entertainment value because it shows the production of a high explosive. Also because the show two separately timed chages of the explosive going off underneath an old station wagon. One thing that may disappoint the viewer is that the explosive is a slurry of nitromethane, and two other solids that has a consistancy like paper-mache.The explosive made in the video is nothing like military C-4 which is made of cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) and polyisobutylene, not to mention, more powerful. By looking at math calculations (which were far off), their miserably stupid understanding of what HEAT is supposed to mean in heat rocket, and the way that the men place the detonation cord into the shaped charge shows that these men are amateurs, not professionals. The explosive is relativly safe (no explosive is safe) probably as long as the finely powdered metal wasn't added. The power of the explosive is about the same as TNT. The video did lack safety procedures for manufacturing the explosive. But you can buy a book printed by paladin press that covers safety to a big extent that is called "Professional Standards for Preparing, Handling, and Using Explosives" and is something you must have for every explosives books collection. In summary, this video will be enjoyed by anyone who has an interest in explosives like I do. P.S. If you have cable, TLC once in a while will run a five program series called blaster masters which is very entertaining as well.
