Customer Reviews of Talk to the People / River High River Low
Get it for "Shamading" and "North Carolina", can the rest ! Neither of the albums on this CD are great overall... however, there are two extremely funky moresels that make up for it undoubtedly... Shamading and North Carolina. Let It Lay and Talk to The People are close runner ups. Fans of Billy Preston's Outta Space and other Rhodes / Clav driven grooves will really dig this cuts. - - What's Going On is also an incredible track, though if that's the track the gets you, check out Donny Hathaway's version on his funky "LIVE" album.
Aside from Shamading, North Carolina, What's Going On, etc. I feel that the albums lack consistency beyond those tracks - - however these few tracks do warrent the purchase. If you like this breed of Jazzy Rhodes driven soul, definitely check out Gil Scott Heron's collaborations with Brian Jackson via Gil Scott Heron and the Midnight Band in the mid-'70s - - especially tunes like "We Almost Lost Detroit", "Race Track in France", "Ain't No Such Thing as a Superman" etc.
les talks to the people
you have two albums here ... a soul explosion that's on par with anything issac hayes has ever done . and a funky - wah-wah - fuzz bass - clavinet - break beat monster unlike anything i've ever heard . this record should be what herbie hancock's "headhunters" has become . for fans of the electric eddie harris , roland kirk , quincy jones , p- funk , or even stevie wonder get on this, you will be blown away
talk to the people
talk to the people is the album that should be as big as Herbie Hancock's "headhunters" . funky as hell , deep and heavy ... wah wah guitar , clavinet , fuzz bass , electric piano , and les's soulful voice . 77 plus minutes of bliss . one of mike d (beastie boys) 's favorite all time jazz albums and definately one of mine . (for credibility sake i'm a big yusef lateef , roland kirk , and eddie harris fan)
