As usual High Heat Major League Baseball 2004 isnt quite as pretty as most of the competition, but the game does have a nostalgic look thats quite stylish--kind of like the difference between now-torn down County Stadium and the new Miller Park that replaced it in Milwaukee. A major area of improvement is in player animation. The players arent stiff anymore; they move like human beings. A bit of graphics sheen was applied to the stadiums too, and while not the best, High Heat is finally a good looking game. Unfortunately, audio is merely okay. The problem isnt limited to dry and dull commentary. High Heat 2004 pretty much has the same soundtrack as High Heat 2003 and, the music often does not match action on the field.
High Heat 2040 adds some 30 new pitches to the game, and the pitcher/batter interface so crucial to this games success (its the best in the business and it feels like real baseball) is still in place and looking good. High Heat plays a solid game of baseball that just feels right.--Andrew S. Bub
Pros:
- Good looks, great gameplay
- Best pitcher/batter duel available in a baseball game
- Bad commentary

Customer Reviews of High Heat Major League Baseball 2004
Decent ...
For starters, the graphics in HH04 are so bad that it's almost painful to watch. You literally cannot tell one player from another. Even the stadiums were done poorly, and the crowd is even worse. Player animations in the field are horrible. Jumps and dives arent real-looking. Often times the ball will just magically appear to be caught by someone, despite the fact that it looked like it was 10 feet away. Nothing in this game is smooth, everything is jerky.
The in-game play is frustrating. If you're pitching and the count is 3-2, just walk the guy, because if you give them any pitch to hit it will be crushed. And the computer will ALWAYS rally in the 9th, no lead is ever safe. The AI is annoying. The CPU catcher is ALWAYS throwing to first to check the runner, and so is the pitcher, regardless of what base a runner is on (3rd?!?!). The game just has a clumsy feel to it, the whole thing seems slapped together, even the menus' look and feel is bad. There is nothing fancy about HH04, there isn't a single bell or whistle.
The only good things are the vast amount of sliders and the ridiculously micromanagerial franchise mode. I wish all sports games' sliders were this thorough, it lets you construct your own game down to every last detail. And is anyone really that obcessed with baseball that they want to manage a team that much? Well, if so, then this is your game. ...
Its getting there
First of all the good stuff:
Graphics - 10 times better than any of the previous in the HH series.
Gameplay - Pretty good, the outfield relays are great, Nice to have the multiple pitcher/batter interfaces which are in the previous games, and the ability to edit players which I will talk about later.
Realism of the game - I have seen a few comments about the pitching and only being able to throw a strike or a ball in a general direction. Thats baseball, there are only a few guys in the league with outstanding control of every pitch, This is not Triple Play where you can move the ball around after its been pitched. Being able to adjust the speeds of the pitch types is nice and effective.
And now the things that need work:
Pitching - The only problem i see with the pitching is when the catcher sets up inside or outside, it is always a ball, (I like batting from the pitcher view) I would like to see that fixed to where a catcher can set up anywhere and still be able to throw a strike.
Minor Leagues - Not the real minor leaguers, I was hoping to have the real names in there but to no such luck, the CPU versions of the past have had the real players. You can go in and edit all names for every team but for some of you it may not be worth it. Being a Giants fan I would have loved to have brought up Jesse Foppert.
I would recommend this game, but Like myself, you may want to rent it before purchasing. From what i hear WSB 2K3 is the game to beat this year.
best baseball game since ken griffey jr for super nitendo
This is a awesome game. I like the controllers, like you can't cheat like the other baseball games. What i mean is you choose if you want to pich a ball or a strike. I love the way you do that. The other way is harder and a better way to cheat. Like when you pich it then you move the ball around, then when your about to swing the person your playing against can just change the pich to a ball or something else. This is truely the funnest baseball game of all time. I love "Ken Griffey Jr" for super nitendo, but I have to say this beats it.
