Customer Reviews of High Art
One of my favorites I was blown away by the music to this movie, and the soundtrack was even better than I expected. The music matched the "hazy" feel of the movie. "She Might Be Waking Up" is one of the most beautiful love songs I've heard in a long time. This soundtrack also proves what a talented and versatile band Shudder to Think were (they are no longer together). I also have their album "50,000 B.C." and it too is one of my favorites-- though a completely different type of music. The "High Art" soundtrack is more of an ambient sound-- mostly instrumental-- though it's hard to describe. Some of it has a great beat as well. The whole CD is quite an experience. Out of my 300+ CDs, this one is in my top 15.
Ones Of Those Rare Perfect Albums
First off, if you want to know what STT usually sounds like don't buy this album, if you want to know what they should sound like, buy this album for every single CD player you own. Anyone who truely knows and appreciates intelligent music will like or understand this album. To tell the truth I don't like STT, I discovered them when I saw "High Art" and I thought that this was their native sound and bought this album and some others, and this is the only one that doesn't make me wish that you could return CD's after opening them. I really hope the response to this experiment somehow influences them to produce more albums like this. Don't worry about the "only" review below that gave this album 1 star, that reviewer is obviously a STT fan, everything should be rated based on what it tries to be and not what it usually is. I am rating this based on it being well though out music and you won't ever see any other reviews from me for their other albums, that just wouldn't be fair!
if this is high art, maybe i just prefer low art
first, i dig shudder to think quite a bit. pony express, to me, is their pinnacle of achievement and experiment. the vocals are amazing, with a range that would make gladys knight jealous, and the guitar is solid and well-placed, with many beautiful subtleties. so where are these two crucial STT ingredients on "high art"? nowhere to be found! what kind of sick joke is a shudder to think album w/out their vocals and guitar?
in all fairness there are a couplefew songs out of the bunch where you actually get to hear craig's gifted vocals and nathan's talented guitar playing. but that's it.
so disappointing...buy this if you like anonymous, forgettable, ambient ditties.
