Customer Reviews of Hey, Fatso: The Best of Al Frisibie
PREEEETY CAT, PREEETY CAT plEASE COME HOME The only concern to be raised after reading AL Frisbie's "HEY, FATSO" is that it will be read by readers who are inevitably disappointed by what they perceive as an absence of some 'literary momentousness' expected of a work, that somehow this book is not 'significant' or without 'literary weight', maybe even back of the cereal box material. Granted, FATSO pushes no moral on its readers and there is no river through the night guided by the tears of a candlelight towards its place on Oprah's book list to echo in all eternity--And that is why Frisbie's book should be appreciated for what it is: a change of outlook, a breath of fresh air or a deep drag on a cigarette.
While a reader may have an easy time following and understanding the direct and controlled language in FATSO, said reader is also being lured--like a kitten by a string--by Frisbie's command over the language; the lanugage may be simple and the content light, but these factors in no way diminish the import of Frisbie's work. In the end "HEY, FATSO" is an energetic dash through the complex yet often ignored world of experiences we share with of our smoothly elusive, haughty yet independent--'Thanks, but I'll lick my own back'--fuzzy little feline friends. We pet, we love, sometimes we get into accidents and become one with the road. Problems with FATSO then are probably just personal problems, like mine--
