Customer Reviews of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Widescreen Edition) (Harry Potter 2)
A wonderful sequel, and a masterpiece in its own right! The second instalment in the Harry Potter movie franchise is an excellent movie in its own right - the story of Harry Potter and his battle against dark forces continue, and the story takes on a darker tinge as the evil that Harry Potter battles begins to develop into a thing of more substance. <
> <
>Daniel Radcliffe reprises his role as Harry Potter as do Rupert Grint [Ron Weasley] & Emma Watson [Hermione Granger] -all three do justice to their roles, and show some maturing in each respective role, esp Radcliffe. Richard Harris plays Dumbledore, sadly for the last time, as he died, and Dumbledore is played by Michael Gambon after this movie. Kenneth Branagh plays the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher with a convincing air of vanity, appearing airheaded most of the times, as should be. <

>The effects are even better in this instalment than in the previous movie - the creatures especially Dobby the house elf,the Basilisk, and Aragog, the giant spider are true examples of great CGI effects. <

>All in all, this is a worthy follow-up in the Harry Potter franchise, and a visual feast for the senses.
VHS HP & the Chamber of Secrets
Unfortunately I ordered a book not a movie, but I take full credit for the mistake. I have this movie as I have all the ones out so far and it like the rest is up to the quality I expected from any Harry Potter product. PG 13 is a good rating as I dont think that younger children should see the violence within the Chamber itself, mostly they wouldnt understand what was happening. I would recomend this to all interested in the mystery and fantasy of fiction.
the worst movie in a while
I've read the books and I liked them...but the movies are a whole different story (not literally). There are 2 main problems - plot and character casting. First the problem with the plot - when you're reading the book you're ok with the 3 main characters going through the most roundabout routes to get anything done. That's how books are. They're supposed to keep you in suspense. However, adapting these books to the big screen has been a disaster. For example, some kid has seen something awful happening, some sort of dark magic. So instead of telling someone smarter than him, he'll keep it secret and investigate it on his own for a few months, confiding in only two of his friends. One secret will lead to another darker secret but they won't tell anyone who can actually do anything about it. If they did that, the problem would be resolved and the story over. This is really ridiculous when you see it on the big screen. The problem with the character casting is pretty obvious. The kid who plays Harry looks like a Harry and acts like a Harry. However, the kid playing Ron Weasley is way too annoying for the big screen. For almost the entire second half of the movie, this kid is whining and making corney jokes that no kid his age would even find funny. His acting sucks. Hermione comes off looking pretty bad since she keeps putting down her friends for not knowing much. In the book its cute. On the screen this kid is way too annoying and a huge wyatch since she does it in almost every scene. To top it all off, the cracking, adolescent english voices are almost too much to bear. I had to turn it off and watch it over a few days.
