On the DVD
There are two new animated sequences, which aren't incorporated into the film. One's a half-minute hackysack-themed bit, but the other is a good-looking, two-minute scene featuring the late Steve Irwin as an albatross, who, with Mumble, encounters a blue whale. "Dance Like a Penguin: Stomp to the Beat" is hosted by Savion Glover, whose dancing was motion-captured for the film, but other than a couple basic tips, it's pretty much a demonstration rather than a lesson. In addition to the two music videos (Gia's "Hit Me Up" and Prince's "The Song of the Heart"), "I Love to Singa" is an appropriately matched 1936 Merrie Melodies cartoon in which a young owl ruffles feathers by wanting to sing jazz for his classical-music-loving family. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews of Happy Feet (Widescreen Edition)
Original and very australian take on environmentalism Seeing all the negative reviews, i may as well clear up a few issues. We all know what the film is about. Penguin turned into outsider by odd behavior, seeks answer to riddle of what has happened to the fish they depend on. Goes on a quest to find answer. <
>First of all, this film is a quest movie and has the basic hero storyline: the community experiences a disaster; young man(penguin) goes off on a quest to find the answer and bring a boon back. Naturally, the hero is an oustider..thats what spurs him to undertaking the great task. He needs to prove himself. <
>So the story is straightforward...but the manner of treatment is not. The director, George Miller, is not an american...hes an australian with a very different sensibility. Hence the musical numbers in the film. At first i found this different and strange. But if you accept the premise of talking penguins, why not singing and dancing ones! Given that, the choice of music is usually apt and entertaining. <
>One 'reviewer' was surprised the film called Happy Feet, as she/he didnt find it a happy movie!....This is where professional reviewers are preferable! The Happy Feet refers to the penguins strange ability, which propels the plot, not the story: on which see above. But it DOES have a happy ending.... <
>The story as it unfolds is varied, with exquisite computer animation, great dialogue (better than most american animation, where the dialogue is embarrassingly trite: think Ice Age 2),and a cast which is well suited to the characters. <

>'The few fun scenes didn't make up for the overall slow and dragging pace. ' <
>What??? The movie moved along at good pace....maybe the reviewer is too used to hi-octane movies. <
>The film has an environmental theme, which angered a number of 'reviewers'...who are offended by anthnig that seems to criticise the american way of 'life' or massive and very conspicuous overconsumption. But thats why liked it...It had a very topical theme...not another buddy movie (Ice Age) or pressure piece for family values...It has a theme that can be appreciated by people all over our globally warming world... <
> <
>The use of different accents....do the reviewers want them all to speak broad american? Some of the accents are stereotypical: hot spanish, rigid, calvinistic scots etc...which is worrying....The father and mother speak like the musicians they emulate... <
>This movie well deserved its award, as what other animation that year could match it?
Very Disappointing Propaganda
Save the Whales!! and the penguins!! curse oil !!

>That's the premise and it stunk.
Penquins Overdone
Overall, this movie was okay. It didn't get even the least bit interesting until the final half of the movie. Although not as bad as Surf's Up, I think it is not as good as some of the other animated movies.
