Christmas Day Coaster Burner - Won't read or write CDs
Well, this has been a fun addition to Christmas Day - making CD coasters and spending time on a worthless call to outsourced tech support. HP must be getting so many calls on these units that they've established a call center number specifically for this DVD burner unit. <

>The only good thing about the call to this tech support outfit was the answering the call was a native english speaker. And I guess he was upfront saying you had to be careful choosing the firmware updates because HP uses a number of manufacturers for this drive -- and the wrong manufacturer firmware will really cause problems if you load it. <

>After reading through a bunch of stuff, he said (1) I needed to go to the HP site and choose a firmware upgrade and (2) I need to use specific cd manufacturers as the drive doesn't work with several. There is no 2nd tier support for the next three days due to Holidays. When I asked to speak with supervisor, he put me on hold for a long time and later returned saying the supervisor wasn't available. He also was not able to give me a ticket number for this call.
