Customer Reviews of Gypsy Angels
Nice characters, OK story Honestly, the only reason I rented this movie was to see Vanna White, and maybe in the buff. I wasn't disappointed. The love scenes are tender and brief, but you do get a glimpse of Vanna's great assets. She is a beautiful woman. She's not a bad actress either. She should have done more pictures.
I can't tell if this is pre-Wheel of Fortune, but the movie certainly looks and sounds dated, early '80s. It reminded me of Bobby Jo and the Outlaw, the only flick I know that Lynda Carter fully revealed the bosom that was jiggling most wonderfully in Wonder Woman.
That aside, it is a nice story. No Oscar winner, but you care about what happens to the characters. The guy who plays the stunt pilot doubles up as singer on some of the songs on the soundtrack.
Vanna and Gene will set fire to your screen
I understand that when most people think of Gypsy Angels their first thoughts are of gameshow goddess Vanna White. The discerning movie lover, however, will understand that it is the astonishing performance of Gene Bicknell that makes this movie one for the ages. Bicknell plays attorney-turned-stunt pilot Jeff Turner in a performance that was unforgivably ignored by reviewers all around the world. In the story, Bicknell brings out the humanity of Turner who tells the establishment to go to hell as he decides to follow his dreams of being a stunt pilot. Along his travels he meets Mickey, Vanna in her first English speaking role, a down and out stripper on the way to nowhere. Against all odds they fall in love. Yes, its a story as old as love itself, but Bicknell and White manage to bring a quiet dignity to each of their roles. Like the great Apocalype Now, Gypsy Angels manages to string one great scene after another. For example, the surreal fight scene between Jeff and a seedy night club owner as Jeff fights for Mickey honor. This scene, almost Kubrikian in nature, draws a stark contrast to the tender love scenes between Mickey and Jeff. Plot twists a plenty, this story will take you to places in your own heart that you've only dreamt about. Are you a fan of tearjerker love stories, or maybe you just really like Wheel of Fortune, either way this movie has earned its right to be on your must see list.
Fantastic!
Vana White is great, refreshing and displays her vast array of acting skills in this timeless film.
