Customer Reviews of Gospel Treasury
Great old-time gospel music During 10 years with Columbia Records, Jimmy Dean recorded 2 albums worth of Gospel music, released as Jimmy Dean's Hour Of Prayer in 1957 on Columbia records and Hymns by Jimmy Dean on Columbia's subsidiary Harmony records in 1960. Each album was released in mono and rechanneled stereo. This cd includes 9 of the 10 songs from the Hymns album and 11 of the 12 songs from the Hour Of Prayer album, the one song omitted was the only one on that appeared on both albums, The Farmer And The Lord. The songs presented on this cd (with stereo content) are: <

>All of the mono songs could be slightly rechanneled, it's hard to tell. Also, the songs are all slightly hissy, which isn't a bad thing because i'd rather them not be NR'd to death....though it would've been nice to see all of the mono tracks in at least binaural stereo (the others are in full 3-track stereo, albeit not very wide stereo). <

>I like this entire cd, i can listen to it beginning to end without skipping songs, but my favorites include Just As I Am, Near The Cross, Softly And Tenderly and Rock Of Ages. However, Jimmy also cut a gospel album in 1967 when he signed with RCA Victor records, which is now owned by the same company that owns these original Columbia/Harmony recordings, Sony BMG, and a nice 2 cd set featuring all of these songs, the omitted song, all of the RCA songs and some unreleased gospel tunes would be a great thing to see on cd, and i for one would buy it if it were available.
