You've never been to Gotham? Take off with host James Avery as he explores the city that never sleeps in Going Places: New York. You'll see plenty of the main attractions as well as some lesser-known highlights of the cultural capital of the United States. Tour Broadway with actor Joel Grey, check out the beauty of the birds and the joggers in Central Park, and eat yourself silly from Chinatown to Little Italy. Just like the city, this tour is fast paced; before you know it, you're off to Coney Island to ride the Cyclone--scary even on a television screen. The camera work is exceptional, capturing the grandeur of the skyline just as easily as the intimacy of small moments in restaurants; you feel as though you're actually walking the streets and might soon get approached for spare change. For the spiritually inclined, we sit in on a gospel service in Harlem and find that even the most urban environment can have a soul. There's plenty more in store for you, so whet your appetite with Going Places: New York and then get going! --Rob Lightner

Customer Reviews of Going Places: New York City
Good overview for tourists This is kind of a novice's attempt to capture the best of New York City. Having lived here all my life (nearly 4 decades) I can say with all honesty that this is just "okay" for tourists, and doesn't come near to capturing the essence of this great city. If I were considering a first time trip to New York, this video would not make me book my trip. Has some good coverage of famous places, but views more like a long commercial than a video. Save your money and just rent it from the library for free.
A good video from New York
I visited New York in February 2001, and for me it's a wonderful city. With this video, I remember my week in the city. I like this tape, because it's no a classical video tour of the Big Apple. I recommended to all people was visited New York, buy it. Thanks.
