Customer Reviews of Gigli
A Near-Great Film I watched this move to see how bad it was. Surprise! I found it to be a fascinating and insightful movie about how someone with a disability can bring two people together, and also grow in the process.
Ben Affleck portrayed Larry Gigli really well. Contrary to what others believe, there was real chemistry between him and Jennifer Lopez (Ricki). The frank discussion about sex was both comedic as Gigli played macho man, and sensual during Ricki's turn.
It also had many fine comedic moments. When Ricki asks for a tea and Brian says he wants one too, Ricki immediately says 'two teas', now that is superb comedic timing. Plus it portays Ricki's early dominance in the relationship.
Justin Bartha (Brian) portrayed his character's disability extremely well. As in real life for the developmentally disabled, in the movie some people who interacted with Brian were empathetic, others were at best tolerant. At first, Gigli was not nice at all. The scene when Gigli tries to force Brian into 'acting normal' was a classic, yet Gigli's eventual turn-around in helping Brian was really quite tearful. The Brian character grew as well once he was exposed to the outside world and those around him began to understand him better.
Too bad the spate of negative reviews (and swearing and violence in the film) will likely mean it will never be used to depict the positive humanistic message that so many 'professional' reviewers missed.
better than hustle and heat
yes this movie was alot more better than hustle and heat. since vivica a fox's acting isn't as good as her prior movies.
it ain't the worst
what the critics were saying claiming that this movie was the worst of 2003 is false. this movie really was good. since this movie has superb acting from ben affleck and the whole movie is funny and clever.
