Customer Reviews of Get Smart Again
Release the original Get Smart tv series on DVD The Get Smart Again movie is good, but the original TV series are much better. In my opinion, Get Smart is among the best and the funniest tv series ever released. I am looking forward to see them on DVD. I hope, soon!
I love it more then the series, would you beleive it?
ok, well how about; i love it more then "the nude bomb?"
This is a great movie, and at a great price! This movie may contain a few of the old gags seen in the TV series and recycled a few of the old jokes aswell, its still classic Get Smart material!
After the years have passed, Max and his wife 99 have retired from the spy buisness. Only to discover that there old arch rival Kaos is back in buisness, and with the new spys of the day not equiped to handle taking them on, they find Maxwell Smart to come back and help them!
And the goofyness of Max is back in black and hitting the sack as good as ever before! Alot of the original cast of the TV series have returned and it is very much a film that was worth making! Almost like a reunion for a show that never got a final episode!
This movie is great and contains all your favorite Get Smart lines and antics except maybe one? but they only missed it by __that much! err, sorry about that chief!
But the hillarious goofyness of max and the team is as great as ever, tho they may have all ages, this is a great flick!
If they ever release "the nude bomb" on DVD, i strongly recomend you do not watch that one! It pretty much had nothing to do with the tv series and went more James Bond style, it wasnt funny, it completly screwed up the knowledge of cast and freinds of the TV series, and 99 wasnt even anywhere in sight, and seeing max as guy scoring with all the chicks was not a good idea! Max and 99 are ment to be together forever, and this movie revived that crappy movie they made before this one!
Get Smart Again - OK, But Where's the Original Series
As many who have created reviews here have said, when's the original series coming out? Probably the political correctness crowd would have a cow over this series, but who cares? It's got the Mel Brooks stamp on it.
As for this remake, yes it's got some of the old jokes in there. But instead of the cone of silence, they tried to one-up the original series by introducing "hover cover" and the "hall of hush". While these were good tries, I miss the Chief and Max trying to talk under the cone of silence. I also miss the original hallway Max walks down with all its doors. In the new version this hallway is out of commission. Boo!
Also, all the old characters are there, but they seem stale compared to the original cast, and of course, there's no Chief. Also, they try to get cute with Siegfried's character by giving him a double role. It doesn't work.
IF the execs get their heads screwed on straight and come out with these DVDs they should just skip the first year and go straight to year 2 when the series was in color. For the afficionados they can offer year 1 later, but to draw a better response they should just issue year 2 if they're going to do anything at all.
I agree with a lot of the comments made already regarding this series. With all the garbage available nowadays on DVD I can't see why they haven't already issued this series. But maybe the studio execs can't figure out how to tone down the original without ticking off half a dozen ethnic groups.
Some years ago I happened to see an episode of Get Smart on either TV Land or Nickelodeon. I thought it was a scream. It had one of those 60's comedy hacks on as "da craw" (the claw). Of course, Max didn't understand that he was trying to say claw, so the villian says "not da craw, DA CRAW!" And it had the same jokes in it about "get your knee off my chest" and the cone of silence and Max's claims to having "10 agents with dobermann's outside, would you believe it?"
Maybe it'll just take a little more time and buyer interest to bring this excellent series back.
