Customer Reviews of Gerber 2 Pack Fun Grips 6 Oz. Spill-Proof Cups
Not a good first cup, but save for later! I bought these for my son as his first sippy cup (around 8 months). He had trouble in part because when you screwed the lid on, the mouthpiece never centered when holding it by the handles. First I thought he wasn't getting the hang of cup drinking, then I switched to a handle free sippy and problem solved! I brought these out again after a few months practice and he uses them just fine (at 1 year old).
Spill-proof???
That's certainly a misnomer. This was the first sippy cup we purchased for my son. The little device that is supposed to make the cup spill-proof would always slip out, causing the cup to leak. The design of this cup looks cool, and Gerber is a reputable name in the baby-product industry, so I thought I was getting a quality product when I laid my money down for the 6oz Gerber "Spill-Proof" Cup. I was wrong.

>There are plenty of sippy cup options out there, and your kid is bound to go through quite a few of them during their sippy-cup days. Gerber makes plenty of other sippy cups with a sturdier design. Personally I prefer their sport cups...that one has held up the longest in our house.
Grip, Grin, and Go with Gerber
Now that my son is almost five years old and has moved out of the sippie cup phase of his life, I haven't had to purchase these cups in quite awhile. However, when he was younger (around 9 months), I purchased quite a few of these cups for a variety of reasons.

>First, the biggest draw for me was the soft, textured handles on either side of the cup. My son could easily grasp the handles of these cups while drinking. The hard plastic of the cup itself helps prevent any cracking, breaking, or splitting during numerous falls from the highchair or when it is inadvertantly dropped. The raised spout allowed my son to easily drink from the cup, while the valve prevented too much liquid from spilling out. The cup's size (6 oz.) allows for just enough liquid during mealtimes and snacks (not too much, like a 9 oz.; not too little, like a 4 oz.). The cup is also compact enough to take anywhere, whether it is the car, stroller, or in the diaper bag. Finally, the cups come in a variety of colors, making it an attractive, fun buy (and easy to spot in the diaper bag or refrigerator!).

>While there are many positive aspects of this cup, there are also many negative points, as well. First, these cups scratch very easily, whether through handwashing, the dishwasher, or just daily usage. The cup's lid is not very durable itself; when my son was teething, he found these cups to be the perfect "teething toy" due to the fact he could literally sink his new sharp chompers into the lid and spout, leaving pieces of rigid plastic behind. In addition, as many previous reviewers noted, I had problems with the valves staying in place and they would often fall out, especially if my son sucked too hard on the cup. (However, I have had this problem over the years with many other sippie cups made by different companies, so I don't think that these cups are any exception.) Finally, the cups are a little on the pricey side; many times I was able to get them on sale or with a coupon or as gifts.

>While these cups have their pros and cons, I still think they are well-designed and have fairly decent quality. I purchased some for a friend's ten-month-old and they work out great for her. I recommend this product, but if you're skeptical, then definitely shop around and compare with other sippie cups.
