Customer Reviews of Gargoyles
Small, yes, but informative I respectfully disagree with the two previous reviewers. Obviously they bought the book sight unseen (probably online) and expected a "normal-sized" book full of pictorials. I bought my copy in a bookstore years ago so I knew what I was getting - a pocketbook full of useful info on gargoyles. I bought it at a time when there was little to nothing published on the subject and was not disappointed. If you are just getting interested in gargoyles, this is a good little book to start out with that won't require investing a lot of cash. You will learn the difference between a gargoyle and a grotesque and a bit about gothic architecture, of which these creatures are an integral part. A good, solid little book. As someone who has pursued gargoyles and gargoyle books for many years, I highly recommend it.
i deserved it
small. informative but the print is hard to read. lacking in pictures and seems to revolve around gothic stuff. best buy at such a price? maybe so.
Lacking... Enough said.
Small in size, only 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches and at times difficult to read due to the tiny print printed over wallpaper. Although the text was somewhat informative, the photographs are few and several are repeated from almost the same camera angle. In a book this size there is precious little room for repetition. My first impression that the price was too good to be true was accurate. A far better choice is "Holy Terrors". Very informative, historically accurate and embellished with the best photographs I've found so far. Well worth the read.
