Customer Reviews of G3 - Live in Concert
Once-in-a-lifetime-performance of these three guitar greats! You will probably never witness a more extraordinary triad of electric guitar players playing their incredible and moving music on one stage! Joe Satriani shows how he is one the greatests with his "Summer Song." Steve Vai, who played with Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, Public Image Ltd., and others, proves that he puts his heart, as well as bares his soul, into each of his songs with his most awe-inspiring, spiritual, elightening masterpieces: "For The Love of God". Eric Johnson adds a little blues into the mix with a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughn. The best comes at the end with all three of them jamming on one stage! This is a must for all electric guitar fans!!!!!! END
A MUST HAVE FOR ANY SATRIANI, JOHNSON OR VAI FAN!
Three extremely talented and unique guitarists come together for one of the best concerts I've ever seen! Viewing this made me feel like I was on the front row! And the most amazing thing (besides the music) is that sells for just 10 bucks! Absolutely the wisest 10 bucks I've ever spent! I give it 15 stars!
Some may think this is a contest to see who is the best but I don't look at it that way. SATRIANI, JOHNSON, AND VAI each bring something unique to the concert. G-3 LIVE IN CONCERT is a 3 song live playing of each artist and then they all jam together at the end in complete rapport and friendship. You can tell they all respect each other alot. The running time is 75 minutes of "glued to your seat" entertainment! NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT!
Here are the songs in order: SATRIANI plays 1) Cool No9 2) Flying In A Blue Dream and 3) Summer Sky. The second is my favorite. JOHNSON plays second. His songs are 1) Intro Song 2) Manhattan and 3) SRV (Which is dedicated to the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn.) The second is my favorite. VAI plays last. His songs are 1) Answers 2) For The Love Of God and 3) The Attitude Song. Again the second song is my favorite.
"THE JAM SONGS" (FEATURING ALL 3 G-3'S) are: 1) Going Down 2) My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama and 3) Red House (in honor of the late, great Jimi Hendrix.) The third song is my favorite.
I highly and whole-heartedly recommend this videotape--incredible sound, very entertaining, diverse, and fun to view. You will not be disappointed; trust me! BUY THIS NOW! DON'T MISS IT! There isn't a single boring moment or bad song; these guys ROCK! It will make you a fan of all three if you aren't already!
Great show
I'm surprised to see some people are down on Steve Vai's performance on this dvd. As far as I'm concerned this is a G4 (with Mike Kenneally). Vai's music is unique and is probably not as melodic or catchy as Satch's or EJ's, but the performance by him and Mike Keneally breathtaking. Esp the attitude song piece is incredible. It's just great to see two great guitarists coming to a harmony like that. (You gotta love Mike Kenneally for his low profile attitude!!!) If you like Zappa, this should get you exciting.
If you like EJ, manhattan on this DVD has to be the best performance by far. The harmoney EJ and Roscoe Beck is creating is just beautiful (despite the fact that some people might complain about mistakes EJ is making.). I've seen EJ's live show with his alient love child band several times, and the song doesn't sound as good as this one.
Satch is well Satch. He has a great sense of melodies, and he plays so great with what he can do. But as usual, that's all i can say about him. It becomes painfully obvious when the three play together for some blues tones. He just doesn't have the musical sense of Vai or EJ to keep up with them. But that's just my opinion.
Regardless any instrumental rock fan would appreciate this. I haven't seen the latest one with Yngwie yet, but i would imagine it's not going to be as good as this one.
