Customer Reviews of Full Moon Fever
Tom Petty's Cruisin Summer Album! Tom Petty, an artist just slightly behind his time (he only missed the late 60's rock scene by about ten years), has always been a master of pop songs that mean something-- when you think about them, they're really quite deep and thoughtful, but just the same, they're so damn groovy to listen to! FULL MOON FEVER is a classic example-- here's Tom, out there breakin hearts by himself (yuk yuk), old enough to think about some stuff but still not too old to simply have a great time. This is arguably Petty's most commercial album (certainly Jeff Lynne had a big influence), and also arguably his most fun. It is the PERFECT Summer album-- just picture putting it on, and cruising down the interstate to "Free Fallin" or "Running Down A Dream." It will put you in an instant good mood-- this is sunny Southern California music with a little detour down Abbey Road. In addition to the hit singles (which continue to recieve a lot of airplay on classic rock stations), there's also a teriffic Byrds cover ("Feel A Whole Lot Better"), a beautifully touching lullaby ("All Right For Now"), a Dylanesque Wilbury romp ("A Mind With A Heart Of Its Own"), a teriffic rock n' roll number with a slight nod to Buddy Holly ("The Apartment Song"-- check out the bridge), and a pure novelty tune, "Zombie Zoo" (which will ALWAYS bring a smile to me face). There's also "Yer So Bad," which sort of points towards his later 90's work with Rick Rubin. It would be hard to find a sunnier album from Tom Petty than this-- you can just tell he was having a blast. I'm really more of a fan of his later work, like WILDFLOWERS and ECHO, but there's no denying this is a wonderful album, probably the one I'd reccommend besides Greatest Hits to anyone just mildly interested in Petty's work. Whaddaya waiting for? Go Get It!! (And vote for the review too, hee hee!)
Full Helping Of Great Tunes
This is my favorite Tom Petty album. I've always liked Petty's work and always bought his new albums when they've come out. Indeed, in the 1980's and 1990's his records -- with the Heartbreakers or whoever -- are among the few I will buy unheard (once upon a time there were a slew of artists that I would buy automatically). His albums were always worth buying, despite the fact that I always found them somewhat uneven. There were always several songs that I liked a lot, but always some I could do without. "Full Moon Fever" is different. The sound is, to my ears, a bit softer than Petty's typical album. "Free Fallin'" and "Won't Back Down" were the big hits, and the former is built around an acoustic riff and both feature a moderate tempo and simple arrangement. But overall, "Full Moon Fever" is different because the songs are ALL catchy. You can listen to this one all the way through and there is no letdown. Even whimsical numbers like "A Mind With A Heart Of It's Own" and "Zombie Zoo" work well. Check out "Feel A whole Lot Better". The sound is a dead ringer for the Byrds. "The Apartment Song", "Love Is A Long Road" and "Runnin' Down A Dream" are other personal highlights. Get a copy of this album. It won't let you down. Very highly recommended.
Full Moon Fever!! (one of the best Tom Petty albums)
