Customer Reviews of Friendship
obvious, unoriginal effort Max Roach is one of jazz's greatest drummers, well known for his contributions to the bebop revolution of the 40's, his legendary sessions with charlie parker, and his melodic drumming. Similarly, Clark Terry is a history lesson of jazz trumpet - he played for example on the famous "take the A train" by Duke Ellington. i must say i was intrigued when i say this cd and bought it on the strength of their reputations alone, and was severely disappointed. i expected a session which is somewhere in between straightforward (clark's style) and hardbop with a touch of the avant-garde (max's style). not so. this session is less challenging than clark's usual records (which are much more straightforward and max's), the contributions of the piano and bass players are minimal, and the feeling is of two old masters going through some old formula that was done thousands of time before. if originality is what you are after, pick one of max's earlier albums. if prettyness if what you want, clark has much better to offer than this one. if you know max's duo record with dizzy gillespie, dont expect anything close. it isnt.its simply boring.
while i agree with the san diego reviewer about the disappointment, im not sure these guys cant play no more - frankly i think its columbia's fault. this is a label that specializes in taking creative artists and getting their worst albums out of them, with minimal artistic freedom given. these guys tried to force monk to play beatle tunes, and even sent a pianist to "teach" him how to do it... come on.
Clark Terry is such a babe
I don't usually find myself attarcted to older men, but he's hot for hsi age! And his playing is wonderful, thsi is a great jazz cd!!! Wow, he's just so cute!!!
Max Roach and Clark Terry, what can I say
This record is great, really you should just listen to it. But, if you can't listen to music if it's not fast and loud like the reviewer from San Diego....then maybe this album isn't for you. Mr. San Diego wasn't listening very closely if he came to the conclusion that the musicians were "falling asleep". This album is something you really should hear.
