In the first season, Frasier and Marty try to learn how to coexist in the same apartment; Niles and Daphne spend a stormy evening in Niles's house; Frasier acquires pushy agent Bebe (Harriet Sansom Harris) and searches for love with Amanda Donohoe among others; his ex-wife Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) makes a guest appearance; the family takes a cross-country trip in a Winnebago; and the two brothers collaborate on a book.
Bonus features aren't spectacular, but are a cut above many similar DVD sets. Executive producers Peter Casey and David Lee provide a commentary track on the pilot episode. In a 20-minute making-of segment, they and the principal cast members discuss the creation of the show, casting (Lisa Kudrow was the other finalist for the character of Roz), and the mystery of the omni-absent Maris. "Frasier Crane's Apartment" looks at the set and props, and each disc spotlights a few of the celebrity voices that appeared as the radio show's callers. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews of Frasier - The Complete First Season
Go ahead, caller: I'm listening. If you're a fan of Frasier, you don't need me to tell you how great the first season of this show truly was -- from the uncomfortable arguments between Frasier and his father to the indescribable sexual tension between Daphne and Niles. This DVD set is a must-have for any Frasier fan.
Extras: The commentary behind the pilot was fascinating. I wish there had been more commentary and/or interviews with the actors, but I hear this is coming with Season 2 (due out in early 2004). The features with the guest callers (celebrity guest voices) was pretty neat too. The packaging is really nice and sturdy.
Biggest complaint (and the reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5): No sub-titles. The closed-captions are there, but on many TVs it's impossible to bring those up without muting the TV, which somewhat defeats the purpose. That said, though, the audio is generally very easy to understand and I wished for subtitles only on a handful of occasions.
Can't wait for the next volume!
No outtakes? Darn
I rushed out and bought Season 1 because I've never seen it before! I'm a late Frasier fan. I started watching two years ago. It was delightful to see the show from the beginning! And I am beyond impressed by the cast. How have they managed to stay fun for so long?
It's also delightful to see so many of the original minor characters are still on the show. Like Frasier's agent and the rowdy sports guy. I do wish the DVD had outtakes because there are a few scenes I'm sure had the cast in stitches. I'm positive Kelsey Grammar is trying very hard to control some laughter in "Travels with Martin" at one point. I'd love to see how many times it took to get that scene right.
Highly recommended. Especially if you like Frasier now and never saw Season 1.
No
I was very disappointed in season 1 of Frasier. There is no "play all" feature on the disc. I did not like having to hit the "play" button after every episode (approx. every 22 minutes). I want the whole disc to play all the way through. I think Frasier is the most brilliantly written TV show, ever. The cast is superb. I also purchased seasons 2 & 3. I could not get past the discs of season 1 not having the "play all" feature. I never opened seasons 2 & 3. I returned them to the store. Also, why was the final season already released? They skipped seven seasons.
