Introduced in California in 1940, the Franciscan Apple pattern gained immediate popularity and has become a favorite of collectors around the world. Leafy branches of red harvest apples painted on ivory porcelain evoke the rustic charm of a bygone era in California. This 12-inch covered pie dish depicts the quintessential apple pie: the base is golden brown, and the lid features perfectly scalloped golden edges, a wreath of apples in bas-relief, and a plump, easily grasped apple-shaped handle on the top. Bake the pie uncovered, and use the lid to keep it warm at the table or fresh for tomorrow. Whether this piece marks an auspicious beginning or the latest addition to your Franciscan Apple collection, you can rest assured that you have invested in something worth keeping: a classic pattern that will be cherished for generations to come. Dishwasher-, microwave-, and freezer-safe, this dish is made to be used and enjoyed. --Erin Brown

Customer Reviews of Franciscan Apple 12-Inch Covered Pie Dish
Apple Pie Dish--A Work of Art! Oh, another beautiful handpainted piece has been added to the Franciscan Apple "open-stock" 3-Dimensional line: a 12-Inch Covered Pie Dish! All of the pieces in this line are unique--each one a work of collectible art. As such, I would never use this piece for actual baking of pies. I would bake my apple pie in a 9-Inch pyrex pie plate. (You may want to place your empty pie plate inside this covered dish to check the fit.) Then I would serve it, after it had cooled some, in the Apple dish with cover. However, I also like to keep all the 3-D pieces in my Franciscan Apple collection on display, too, because they add such a colorful rustic touch to my kitchen.
