The first season outlined the series' essential storyline: Knight wanted to atone for his bloody past and regain his humanity, but was challenged by master vampire Lucien LaCroix (Nigel Bennett). Knight's partner in crime-solving was the smarmy Det. Schanke (John Kapelos), and scientist Natalie Lambert (Catherine Disher) aided Knight in his desire to become human and struggled with her attraction to him (which would endanger her in episode 16, "Only the Lonely"). Knight's adventures yielded a small but loyal following over its three-season run, which was constantly threatened with cancellation; a letter-writing campaign saved the program after CBS axed it in '93, but failed two years later, when Knight's adventures came to a permanent end.
Columbia-TriStar's DVD set compiles all 22 episodes of the first season (note: the series was presented in three different formats--a 40-minute version for American audiences, a 47-minute version for Canadian and Australian viewers, and a European version which contained nudity; the episodes compiled here are the Canadian versions save for the first episode, which has the American network running time). Hardcore fans may be disappointed by a lack of any extras aside from trailers for three vampire-themed Columbia features (including Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunters), but should be consoled by having the full debut season in one attractive package. --Paul Gaita

Customer Reviews of Forever Knight - The Trilogy, Part 1
Excellent first season for an awesome show "Forever Knight" is a cult classic. Who would've thought that that relatively unsuccessful TV series would end up with as enormous a fan base as it has today? But it did, and now, with FOREVER KNIGHT: THE TRILOGY - PART 1, you can see it all began.
In this set all 22 episodes of the show's first season are compiled. (Note: There were three versions of each episode: the 40 minute American, the 45 minute Canadian, and the European version, which contained nudity. As an added bonus, the Canadian versions of each episode except the first are shown in this set) The show kicked off with the terrific two-part premiere, "Dark Knight" and "Dark Knight: The Second Chapter". Then it moves on to less important episodes, with such interesting episodes as "Dying to Know You", "Cherry Blossoms", "Hunters" and "Dying for Fame". The first season finished with the grabbing finale, "Love You to Death".
This set will no doubt please those who lust simply for the joy of FOREVER KNIGHT on DVD, but those die-hard fans that expected a joy-filled DVD set may be disappointed. The picture quality looks relatively un-tampered with, the menus are weak, and there is zip for special features (except for a few trailers). Overall, a must for true fans - "Forever Knight" has definitely left its mark on the vampire cult.

Late Night Viewing
I came to discover the show when CBS aired "Forever Knight" that was a part of the Crimetime After Primetime. FOREVER KNIGHT was about a 700 year old vampire who is a homicide detective on the night shift in Toronto, Canada. He is looking to redeem himself with only one human sharing his secret, Doctor Natalie Lambert. Nat tries to help Nick become human again, but it is never successful. Nick has a partner, Schanke, who irritates Nick at times and provides comic moments at time (even at Schanke's expense). There are flashbacks to other centuries where Nick has travelled with Lacroix (the one who turned Nick into a vampire)and Jeanette.
To me, Forever Knight is the best vampire series ever made right behind the classic British mini-series, ULTRAVIOLET. It may be a low budget series, but the writing aand acting makes up for whatever shortfalls there are in other departments. The show has spawned many websites, two soundtrack CDs, three out-of-print novels, and legions of fans. I finally watched most of the series agin (including many of the third season episodes I have never seen due to the USA/syndication craziness when USA dropped the show). The show is even better than I remembered. Finally the series is finally coming to DVD. If you're looking for something that is good (or better than) ANGEL or BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, buy this DVD set because you won't be disappointed.
However, the DVD quality could be better. The quality on the first two discs suffer the most with ghosting the titles of each of teh 22 episodes.
