Customer Reviews of For Certain Because
One of the best ever records...ever I've been listening to this album for over 25 years. At a tender age my brother and sister-in-law let me have their copy of this album (the American version spoken of in a previous review) and I've enjoyed it ever since.
You won't believe this is the same group that sings "Carrie-Anne" and "Bus Stop". This album has depth, great songwriting, and Graham Nash's outstanding "Tell Me To My Face".
Other outstanding tracks are "High Classed", "Peculiar Situation", and, well, the whole album! It's all good.
I really appreciate the mono/stereo presentation. The stereo songs have a bit more audio depth than the mono.
What are you waiting for? Buy this album! Now! It's better than the typical 1960's stuff.
Did I mention "Tell Me to My Face"?
No realmente.
The Hollies leave the beat era for good. Great Album!
This is the same exact album that was released as "Stop! Stop! Stop!" by Imperial records in 1966. Unlike thier other USA albums it wasnt a chopped up, and horribly reprocessed stereo version of thier UK albums.
This was a very important LP for the Hollies since it was their first to have all original material, and its the point when they left the 1963-5 "beat group" era behind for good and moved into a experimental pop style. You can hear the influnce that the Beatles, Dylan, Byrds, Zombies, Simon & Garfunkel and Manfred Mann had on them. This is a must have for Graham Nash fans since he contributes his first great songs: "Tell Me To My Face" (which has had many cover versions since then) and the melancholy "Clown".
Its a shame that it wasn't a big selling album. The Hollies have been always thought as a "Singles Band" and that has kept their albums from being successful except for the "Greatest Hits" collections. The Hollies wrote many great songs that people never heard that have been hidden away on LP's. If you have heard the hits and want to hear more from this overlooked group this CD is a excellent place to start.
