Saves me money!
I have owned this model for some time now. It has performed flawlessly. I vacuum sealed about 100 pounds of salmon in pint bags in just one afternoon. That is a lot of bags! Only a few did not seal the first time. A second try and they sealed. The secret is, keep the water away from the sealing area. Using the last of last years salmon the fillets are still firm and fresh. No kidding! You can tell the freshness of fish by the smell and the firmness. Open a vacuum sealed and thawed bag of year old fish and it is still the same as it was when it was first harvested. Part of the point is that you can keep lots of you favorite foods available year round stored in your freezer.

Works for me
Though excited about receiving this product, I was also just a little bit paranoid that the machine would give me the difiiculties that several other reviews mentioned. Thus far, I have no complaints. I made certain to remove the cardboard strip protecting the bag cutter, and it takes very little pressure to cut a bag. When it comes to holding down the lid (pressing both sides), the FoodSaver operates exactly as the guide says- hold down evenly for a few seconds and the lid stays shut for sealing. I find that the extended seal works best for most foods- even "juicier" items- but have not tried beef yet. The lid does release after the sealing is completed. <

Food Saver is saving my dough...
I bought the food saver because I was throuwing away too much stuff and it is already beginning to pay for itself. The instructions claim that you push down to get it started and then release but I find that I have to keep pressure on it to get it to work but it is not that big of a deal. This package included a handheld unit that is the same as the winesaver, and so I have the bottle stoppers. It was the best price I found.
