Customer Reviews of Flamingo [Bonus Tracks]
Little Known Gem.... This, along with the Groovies' "Teenage Head", is simply one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded. Just try and sit still with this coming out of your speakers!
High Octane Stuff
What on earth did Richard Nixon do to this country that they chose James Taylor over this stuff. A potent blend of 50's rock 'n roll, 60's garage R n' B and 1970 style ampage the Flamin Groovies on this album recall the power of Detroit bands like the MC5 & The Stooges but with a more fun party atmosphere. Songs like Headen For the Texas Border, Second Cousin & Road House are all A no.1 barn burners which make you understand why rock n' roll exists in the first place. Even the pseudo psych Beatles cop She's falling Apart is cool. More thrashy than their more dirty/Stonesy follow up Teenage Head(also a great lost Am. rock album)Proto-punk aficionados should get this album into your life NOW!
The Groovies flip us a bird
The sound of the Groovies slouching ever closer towards their masterpiece ("Teenage Head"), "Flamingo" saw them scale back the production polish of "Supersnazz" and deliver a straightahead blast of roadhouse revelry. Still out of time, still commercially doomed, but riding that death train with a whoop and a holler.
