Toymakers at Fisher-Price offer an infant-development video blending classical music and engaging visuals, based on research that such stimulation promotes a baby's physical, social, and emotional development. The film follows babies through a typical day introducing various scenes of familiar objects, animated puppets, animal close-ups, and, most importantly, other babies' faces. This menagerie of merriment is accompanied by "poetry music"--soothing symphonic sounds and soft voiceovers reciting prose and identifying objects on the screen to help with a baby's budding vocabulary. Designed for short attention spans, the film is divided into mini-stories--Playtime, Bathtime, Mealtime, and so forth--to be watched in segments. A 10-minute playgroup tutorial follows, inviting adults with their babies to learn why tickle games, pat-a-cake, and language imitation are important to a baby's growth.
