Customer Reviews of Final Fantasy X-2
Very Nicely Done Final Fantasy X-2 begins several years after Final Fantasy X has ended. Yuna has joined up with a group of sphere hunters called the Gullwings. Why? Well, she has a feeling that Tidus is still alive, and she is trying to find proof.
But for once in a Final Fantasy game, the story really doesnt matter. I finished the game and I'm still not entirely sure what is going on story line-wise, yet I loved the game. The game is very fun. As opposed to the conventional Final Fantasy, X-2 is more about exploration. Mountain climbing as opposed to dungeon crawling. The new clothing grid is almost as exciting as Final Fantasy V's job class system.
The fighting system is interesting, but not innovative. It is, however, nice to be able to switch clothing in class (change your abilities).
The game is also very light-hearted. Despite the serious storyline, the game is fun. You spend alot of time hopping around mountains, singing, chasing after your enemies--not nearly as much deep thought and dark plots of previous Final Fantasies.
On the downside, the game only has three playable characters. I always enjoyed Final Fantasy IX's allowing you to use four characters out of nine at any given time. X-2 has only three. Yuna, Rikku, and a new, depressed character, Paine. While some old characters are in the game, they play minor parts. While this saps the variety of the game, the clothing grid keeps it from getting repetitive.
All in all, this is a very fun game. If you are looking for a deep, moving drama, then X-2 is not your game, try Final Fantasy VII, but this game is incredibly fun. Final Fantasy X had a good story, and it's interesting to see how the storyline progresses.
Brilliant... and very overlooked!
I don't care what anyone says. This is Final Fantasy for heaven's sake. Why are there people giving this awesome game a measly 2 or 3 stars to such an incredible game? I can't answer that one, but I will give an honest and fair review. I will cover each element in the game.
STORY: Wow, if you thought the story in FFX was complicated, then you haven't seen anything yet! First of all, Yuna, Rikku, and newcomer Paine are on a mission to find spheres, uncovering Spira's past. In doing this, Yuna hopes to reunite with an old friend one last time. However, along the way, the girls get sidetracked with the development of a mass-destructive bioweapon known as Vegnagun. Many mysteries, secrets and pasts unwind through (sometimes creepy) spheres found in locations throughout Spira.
CHARACTERS: Most of the characters in FFX-2 also appeared in FFX. However there are some newbies: Paine, Leblanc, Nooj, Baralai and Gippal to name a few. But the main character in the game is Yuna. Every character in the game has a significant role sometime throughout the storyline. And Lulu, Kimahri and Wakka return as well.
BATTLES: This may be a new direction for Final Fantasy, but old habits die hard. The battles are still random. But, they're MUCH easier than the ones in FFX, especially where boss fights are concerned. Things may start off shaky at the beginning of the game, but trust me, you'll get used to it. Also, I should mention the inclusion of "dresspheres" that allow the girls to change clothes in battle, which may seem stupid, but their attacks change as well. Sadly, there are no aeons (but don't worry; they'll play a big part in the storyline during the second half of the game).
SIDEQUESTS: FFX-2 is just packed with these. The biggest sidequest is Sphere Break, a new coin game that seems to be the fad in Spira. While it may seem similar to Triple Triad from FFVIII, it's definitely more exciting than Blitzball.
LOCATIONS: Mostly, all of the locations are the same ones from FFX. Some have changed drastically (Kilika, Bikanel) while others haven't really changed at all.
ENDING: I haven't made it this far just yet. However I do know that there are 3 different endings. There's the regular ending, an extended ending for altering the last cutscene, and yet another alternate ending for completing the game 100%. Supposedly, the last boss in the game should be familiar as well.
CONS: There really isn't anything bad in this game. Although, it does ruin some of the moments in FFX. For instance, the ending to the prequel was really sad, but some of the events in this storyline make that seem really cheesy, if you ask me. Otherwise, it's a great game!
So, for all you FFX-2 haters, know that there is no such thing as a bad Final Fantasy. This gem is no exception. If you liked FFX, then you'll LOVE this. But if you haven't played FFX yet, do that before purchasing this or you'll be really lost in the storyline.
