Customer Reviews of Final Fantasy VI: Original Sound Version
Great soundtrack, but not the best Final Fantasy VI was Uematsu's ultimate tribute to classic, good vs. evil games that characterize the series. At the time of its release it was the most advanced game music available: a wide variety of synthesized instruments with an incredible amount of variation. The neoclassical components of Uematsu's composition are all present, and the borders of video game music were pushed beyond what many thought could be present in a video game. Almost all the tracks are memorable, and astute listeners will notice themes and motifs that are present in almost every track. Fans of other Final Fantasy games will recognize several tunes. To those who have only played the later chapters in the series: we heard it here first. This OST was the first game soundtrack that really merits owning, and will provide many hours of listening time to the FFVI fan.
However, this is not the best Final Fantasy soundtrack. The instruments were not available to make a truly great musical composition on the Super NES. While innovative and revolutionary, just like the game, it is simply naive and nostalgic to say this is the greatest video game soundtrack. It is an important step in Uematsu's development as a composer, and certainly the pinnacle of SNES gaming. Fans of the Final Fantasy VI, a class of people which includes all true FF fans, will love this CD and consider it an invaluable part of their collection. Others will do better to consider newer soundtracks or symphonic arrangements.
Awesome CD even though i haven't bought it
I'm cheap...I've already downloaded the majority of the songs on this soundtrack, but I may very well buy the collection just for the sake of buying it because virtually all of the songs are excellent. By far, FF3 (in the US of A) is the best (and only) final fantasy game I've ever played. I don't have a particular favorite song but I'd have to say the Overworld (Terra) theme is the best or Kefka's Tower. Even if you haven't played the game, (which you should anyway) this collection of soundtracks is invalueable to any classical music afficionado. Download the ROM for free if you have to...e-mail me at funniguy83@aol.com if you want it. I still play the game to this day even though it's 2003... I absolutely love playing it (yes, I do own the game also...I didn't just download the ROM for free...well I did but I own the game so I have an excuse ;) :P).
Definately worth the money!
Final Fantasy VI was and still is my favorite RPG of all time. I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, and most of all, I loved the music.
This game has amazing music to it. It will make you sing, dance, laugh, and cry. It's absolutely beautiful. Nobuo-sama was a genius.
Even if you've never played this game (which you really should, it's awesome!), this cd is still a great buy. whether you want interesting background music, or something beutiful and peaceful to listen to, or you just want to dance to the Chocoboo theme, this is well worth the money to buy.
