Customer Reviews of Fifth Dimension Live
5 Stars for the Rare Studio Tracks--wroth the Hunt! As I mentioned elsewhere in a piece on this identical CD in different packaging, what is really interesting are the intriguing unreleased studio recordings with the 5th with Florence LaRue and Danny Beared at the helm. Mastered so-so, nevertheless you should hear Florence handle sensetive late 70's mood ballads like "The Way I Feel About You" and her genuinely fun "Everybody Wants to Call You Sweetheart, Sweetheart"--one of her best performances in this era. Danny Beard was a worthy replacement for Billy Davis. His voice soars. The live pieces are simply not worth listening to whatsoever and I am a true diehard. They are ghastly. Fans will welcome the wonderfully different tracks that showed the 5th trying new ground after the McCoo-Davis team left.
A Curiosity At Best
This disc is yet another rehash of subpar live performances and mediocre unreleased studio tracks. The previous reviewer is correct in his description of the group makeup and vocal leads, but to suggest this disc offers anything more than a few curious tidbits for DIEHARD fans only is simply wishful thinking. The studio tracks featuring Florence on lead ("The Way I Feel About You," "Here We Are..." and "Everybody Wants to Call You...") are keepers, but the remaining tracks wouldn't cut it as B-sides. The live tracks (featuring the original 5D lineup) are often apallingly bad if not embarrassing. With the exception of "Ode To Billy Joe," not one of the live tracks is associated with 5D, and for good reason.
If you own "Respect-LIVE" or one of the similar discs, you already HAVE this material. It's also worth noting that this disc (like the others) has terrible recorded sound, with poor stereo balance and significant sound dropouts in the master tape. If you don't have this music in some form, take a good long look at your other options before plunking down cash for this overpriced flim-flam.
Rare cuts and live performance
This is a great cd with cuts from the 5th Dimension after Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis left, those from studio, and then a live set of songs from the original 5th Dimension The studio group of the newer group is still great music especially the cuts that feature Florence in the lead, the live music of the Original 5th contains unreleased performances features all of the group and some great solos. This is a great collection and hard to find music that shows the group still put out some great recordings after the changes in personnel although they did not hit the charts they are worth hearing and with the live cuts of the original group make this a great buy
