Customer Reviews of Fefe Dobson
Avril doesn't measure up. I'm sure everyone has heard Fefe Dobson being compared to Avril Lavigne. Don't let this common misconception fool you though, for Fefe is no Avril. Fefe Dobson's debut album is filled to the brim with strong vocals, smart lyrics, and heavy instrumentation. The comparison between Fefe and Avril can be thrown out the window while listening to Fefe's first single alone, entitled "Take Me Away." The song is about continuing to love someone even when the whole world is against your feelings. This song, track 3 on the album, immediately hits you with it's amazing energy, which Dobson portrays while performing the song live and even in the music video. The album opens with "Stupid Little Love Song," a fast-paced rock blitzkrieg that nobody could tell this girl from Canada could belt out just by looking at her. Another highlight is the guitar-driven "Kiss Me Fool" that revolves around the typical teenage angst of the image high school students want to portray while choosing their friends or lovers. In this song, among others, she writes with an age older than she is, advising peers to not "stand there, pretending, and playing it cool/never knowing what we should have been." The album isn't all about hard rock, though, as the gems "Everything," "Julia," "8x10," and the hidden track "Rainbow" represent. These are all slower-paced songs that showcase Fefe's vocal talent and the softer side of her mind and heart. "Everything" is her second radio single, which is sure to be one of many hits coming from this amazingly talented 18 year old.
2-1/2 stars -- Personally, I think this girl is overrated
First off, I don't know why most of the reviews (the positive AND the negative) are comparing Fefe Dobson to Avril Lavigne. Fefe and Avril's styles aren't even remotely related. But anyway, this debut album from Canadian-born Fefe Dobson had a lot of people talking, so I decided to check it out. And I really don't see what all the talk is about.
The problem with this album mainly lies in the way she sings. This may be hard for some people to understand, but even if you're singing hard rock, you still have to have a good voice. The only times Fefe really delivers in this category are on "Take Me Away", "Everything" and the hidden bonus track. Most of the rest of the songs have her either singing without any effort or just talking in tune to the music (see "Bye Bye Boyfriend").
And that song is actually one of the worst songs on the album. There are also some other poor efforts, like "Give It Up" and the juvenile "Rock It Till You Drop It" featuring Tone Loc (probably because the music sounds a little like "Funky Col Medina"). And "Stupid Little Love Song" is just that. Even her lash-out at her father, "Unforgiven", comes out wrong.
I tried to give this album a chance, but I just wasn't impressed with it. Maybe it's better suited for the junior high school crowd, as another reviewer said.

P.S. In response to the reviewer that compared Fefe to Hole, Hole was the name of the group, not the lead singer (the lead singer's name was Courtney Love; I thought everybody knew that).
FeFe Dobson
I have got to say tha this album is one of the best I have heard this year. FeFe sing with a lot of emotions and you could feel the pain associated with her music.
There is a lot of variety in her music and there is a little something for everyone.
