Good, but needs to set the bar higher
I wish I could give this fine magazine more than two stars. It has a wide range of story styles in each issue, a tribute to the name FANTASTIC STORIES, not owing allegiance to any genre: sci-fi, fantasy, or horror. The presentation is on par with many current full magazine format quarterly publications. The cover art is very good, engaging and professional. The story selection needs work. About one third of the stories are meaningless or disappointing false starts. This is surprising considering the lament of many good writers in the field that they cannot get published. FSotI is definitely digging from the bottom half of the slush pile on this one point. These substandard stories are often VERY junvenile. The good stories, sixty-six percent of the magazine, are worthy of any major publication, and are worth the price of the magazine. <
