Customer Reviews of F-15 (Jewel Case)
overall its a very good sim Ive had this game for well over a year and Im still discovering new things about it. the graphics should be better but theyre not horrible, and gameplay to me is most important. I like the cockpit, guiding the bombs into their targets is great, and the mission builder is the best part of the game to me since it allow you to make your own missions, but I do wish I had more control over my wingmen during play. each waypoint should have its primary and secondary target for each plane but it allows only one target per plane.
I wish ground vehicles could be setup to fire at specific targets too, and their waypoints are invisible, they should be visible like the aircraft waypoints, so make sure and mission label their position with a red . on the map or else you'll spend 20 minutes clicking the screen trying to find the waypoint to edit it. ofcourse like any game the bugs are frustrating, some things happen different than they should, such as ground FAC telling you enemy forces have withdrawn when theyre really closing in on them and are fixing to blow them up.
for the most part the game play is very good and all the radio chatter between AWACS FAC JSTARS your wingmen and escorts as well as base tower keeps the game very interesting. I wish the ground steering was more realistic too, and some view bouncing during takeoff/landing would be nice too instead of the view staying the same like you weigh nothing.
the jet noise could be more sophisiticated and there could be a sonic boom when you pass mach1 but theres nothing. my biggest complaint about the game is the menu is strictly navigated thru by mouse so if you spend alot of time on it you'll get carpel tunnel in your wrist and hand like I did. it should allow keyboard commands but it doesnt.
the flight characteristic realism option isnt so realistic so I dont use it, its annoying and keeps the jet way slower than it should like youre towing a 747 behind you. overall Im glad I got this game though.
Don't listen to amateur flight simmers...
... this game is great. Contrary to what a lot of people on this site have said about jane's F-15, it is a great military flight sim. The flight model is acurately altered each time you jettison some of your stores, the avionics/radar/weapons systems are almost authentic and the missions are long and at times boring... just like they are in THE REAL WORLD. Hence the word "simulator", as opposed to game.
I have news for people who complain about the stiff learning curve: it's not supposed to be easy to shoot down a plane or to bomb a bunker or plink a tank. If you want a worthy substitute that's more game than simulator, check out Jane's USAF
Oh, well, it's only ten bucks
Im a FS freak. I own six of them(4 of them combat)and I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. First the good news. Its extremely cheap, and has a cool mission builder. The weapons are cool, too. Now the bad news. You only get 1 aircraft. The horizon fade out point is way too near. The damage stinks. The graphics are stone age. The campaigns are extremely hard and each mission lasts an hour without time compression. Your wingman are no help and blare out a cuss word each time you miss.
