Equipped with a true HEPA filter, this 1,440-watt upright vacuum cleans a 15-inch path illuminated by a headlight and keeps the dust down at the same time. The HEPA filter is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping particles as small as 0.3 microns. Another filter protects the motor. The vacuum has a stretch hose that gives tangle-free reach to its onboard tools (an upholstery nozzle, a dusting brush, and a crevice tool). Seven height settings adjust its brush roll for different carpets and rugs, as well as for a bare floor. The vacuum has a 30-foot power cord, weighs 21 pounds, and stands 45 inches high. Hate it!
I bought this vacuum based on the Consumer Reports recommendation and on the reviews here and after living with it for a year, I finally retired it to the garage and bought an Electrolux Ultra Quiet Canister which I love. Here are the reasons I was not happy with this vacuum: <
>- very heavy (made vacuuming the stairs very hard) <
>- very, very loud <
>- too powerful - sounds impossible I know, but when you start to suck up the corners of your carpets and shred them to bits and the edges of the curtains when you come within a few inches, you will see what I mean. <
>- poorly made controls - they feel like they are going to break when you change the setting. <

>After using it a few times, our house keeper started bringing her own vacuum and said that she thought ours was too heavy and blew too much of the dust around before sucking it up. We have almost entirely hardwood floors and are much happier with our new Electrolux canister. <

Great vacuum--needs wind-up cord.
I love everything about this machine, but the cord that is constantly getting in the way. My old cannister had a wind-up cord so you could keep it short or long while using and yank to rewind when done. That machine had to be 25 years old (Sears, of course). It seems like a no-brainer, so I was surprised this didn't have the same feature.
